That’s a good point Golden arm, When it come to CMA good things come with time, just like fine wine. For the rest I guess they are satisfied with cheap wine.
As far as 7* once again you fail to try to see my point and I sense a level of frustration from you, so all I have to say is in 7*'s world well it’s your world think what you want.
If you got the point of the movie the Matrix you would understand, but kung fu is for people that have a better sense of enlightenment. I like the fact that chinese MA understand this, for the rest it’s monkey see monkey do. We are basically surounded by monkeys.

No, I dont think training poorly for 10 years will do that, but I didnt say it was about training poorly, I said that some of the skills and body requirements necessary to perform those skills take a long time to get. In the meantime you can work on the same things the other guys work on, Grappling, punching, kicking, throwing, timing, bag work, etc, and when those long term qualities begin to set in on top of them, you have yourself a sharper sword than the rest. The problem is, many dont view those other things as necessary, and they are, the 10 years of stuff is not a substitute for the other, it is complimentary and adds to the other.
Are you saying that just because forging a sword by hand is slower, that we should only have swords made the fast way? Overall their quality would be higher than hand made, but you would throw out the master smiths skills with the garbage to get what you are talking about.
False. First of all, I have trained with Team Quest, and Henderson and Tanner (who was still with them at the time) talked about their training regimen. They train between ten and twenty hours a week, depending on how close to a fight they are. Twenty hours a week would be the absolute maximum and it is usually much less. Top MMA fighters absolutely do not spend 6 to 8 hours a day training.
Second of all, very few fighters you see in the UFC make their money by fighting and fighting only. Almost all of them except for the very top of each weight class have day jobs.
What I’m saying is that those skills that take “years to cultivate” and then magically appear are B.S.
Your sword analogy is full of holes. For starters and the most improtant point of my argument is that with your “slow training” you will never be a sword! just a guy who walks around thinking he is a weapon.
Please read the thread “What is the true definition of traditional martial arts.” because I discussed this very same mentality on that thread starting on page2.
frustration? lol, I hope your cma is better than your intuition. I only respond in a similar manner directed at me. you tell me to pay attention, I tell you to pay attention, etc.
As for the matrix, there are multiple meanings and points - I wrote a 10 page paper on it in college - but that is for another thread.
That’s a foolish assumption that you just made. To assume that some one is training poorly for ten years simply because he does CMA is an assumption that the general publick makes. That’s just a stupid mistake, just because CMA focus in other areas of training doesn’t mean that they dont focus on conditioning like the average jock.
We focuse on traditional aspect for health and also focus on conditioning drills that are required for sport San Da. In fact I don’t know any kung fu practitioners that don’t.
I have to admit that I have met as many crappy Karate/ jiu jitsu/ kick boxing and so on that plain out suck and have unrealistick or generic training methods.
Are you saying that all kung fu is good MA because you condition?
To assume that some one is training poorly for ten years simply because he does CMA is an assumption that the general publick makes.
No, it is a valid point and until CMA can hang with MMA fighters on a consistent basis (not the freak exception) then they have no credibility in comparison. All the horse stances in the world won’t make you a better fighter.
but kung fu is for people that have a better sense of enlightenment.
I think Luke Cuomo practices horse stance.

ST00:
In response to those skills being crap: suit yourself. Tell me exactly how taking someone who knows how to box, and giving them ability to stick their fingers into a watermelon with a finger jab would not be similar to carrying a weapon. That guy could turn his jab which is already good into something that is just plain nasty. Your logic doesnt hold water. For instance how was the grip that LKFMDC describes his former teacher as having, fingers like hooks, somehow not making his fighting skills more effective? Or do these skills not exist? One of my teachers had knuckles that were built up in bone to the size of an elbow, if he hits you in the head, something is going to tear open. Not all CMA fighters are stance holding pansies that dont fight, just like not all MMA fighters are jack of all trades masters of none.
The only reason Luke Cuomo lost his last match was because he liked his opponent and didn’t want to bloody his face up. That’s why he didn’t really lay into him and eventually lost.
He should have shown less compassion there. He got robbed.
“tiger craws” and stupid growths don’t mean crap if you can’t land them.
So where are all these CMA fighters hiding at?
Why would you assume that because we do tiger claws we can’t land then that’s exactly the narrow minded attitude that ****es me off. Everyone in my area that has crossed hands with me, I found to be a joke and as far as kick boxers well they went down like a sack of bricks after a few take downs.
As far as open hand fighting ( withought the gloves) Tiger claws are used to grab on to joints so we complete throws and joint locking tech. since most CMA don’t use a gi to grab on to like in judo.
I find most other styles to be rudimental and limmited.
I tend to find both kinds of exponents in most styles I run across…a bunch of hobbyists that are ok and some really hardcore ones that can represent.
ST00, I am not a salesman, and its not my problem if you havent run across them, why should they come looking for you to prove anything? If you are happy with what you do and dont believe in it, then thats cool, but that in no way affects whether its out there.
You guys wonder why these boards tend to be full of inexperienced traditional guys, maybe part of it is because when someone knowledgeable on a subject talks (not necessarily implying myself) they have to deal with a bunch of guys telling them it doesnt exist or to prove it?
I thought of a better analogy: Lets say you are into shooting, and you shoot guns your whole life, now take another guy that does the same thing and give him a scope and some nice rounds to shoot out of that gun. If he hasnt done the shooting, then this wont help, but if he has, these things are going to make him even better than the guy that doesnt have them no matter how much he shoots in some circumstances, but not in all. Anyways, enjoy your training.

Wouldn’t be a hassle if you had a pile of evidence like MMA does.. ![]()
Then why aren’t you fighting? Green cloud, How much do you weigh? I know lots of promoters who would be dee-lighted to set up an MMA fight for either (or both!)vs., me, a student of mine, or hundereds of other MMA fighters fighting just about every weekend across the US.
Prove how amazing experienced, well-trained, qualified CMA really is.
Let’s do it! I could have a fight set up in NJ in a heartbeat. You’ll even get paid for it!
I’ve said this before, but in judo we grab the gi because it’s there. with grabs, overhooks and underhooks, you can accomplish the same throws gi-less.
ShaolinTiger asked where all the CMA fighters were.

Shaolin Tiger I run a full time studio and I am in the mist of a hip replacement wich is going to require about six months rehab, I’m only 40 years old so I should bounce back quikly. My intentions are to fight whom ever when ever and that’s a fact. I have been itching to get back in the game. However if you find your way to my school before my rehab I will school you. Oh yea and at my age it’s open hand combat.
