What’s with the face cages? I hate those things.
You can’t see sh it. They actually make it worse when you get hit in the head because you can’t role with the punch. You end up taking the full brunt of the strike… into your neck!
this is yet ANOTHER event being done by people who don’t fight, don’t train fighters, don’t know anything about fighting but want you to hand over your cash to them because they are “masters”
Fortunately, these days, the San Shou/San Da folks have figured out that everytime we deal with “masters” we get “shafted” so now we only go to event done by our own community

Akhillieus, why not enlighten us as to which of the “eminent masters” doing this thing have active fighters? Who have been on the US national San Shou team?
I know your answer, and I know where you are going to trip and fall down (2 points for me)

I didn’t see anything on the flyer about any masters or slim shady being there, so until I find out that info I can’t really help you there…maybe you can try calling them and ask…I do know that my Shifu is supporting the tournament, at least enough to put a flyer up on our bulletin board, and there are plenty of active fighters in our style…and I would also like to point out that there are good san shou fighters that haven’t been on the US national team…
(2 points for me)
Good for you…you gotta have something to be excited about…
As for the rules…it sounds like kuoshu a few years ago, where you didn’t get points for getting the throw if you didn’t remain standing…except kuoshu has had knees, elbows, and joint locks as far back as I can remember…I don’t really see why it is called full contact if you can’t “rock the head”…it really sounded to me like it was being run like kuoshu but then again it sounded like san shou…I don’t know maybe its a mix of kuoshu, san shou, and light contact…I don’t know, I’d be curious to see how it works…the only rules I like competing under are kuoshu, san shou, and muay thai…(I haven’t done san da or mma yet, but I am sure I would like those too)…
Bleh, cut them some slack.
As seen on the front page: “First Annual”
(Unfortunately, also seen on the front page: “San Shao”)
lkfmdc: May I ask why you seem to be actively derisive of nearly every san (shou|da) event except your own? Isn’t it better for more people to be able to get into full-contact fighting, even if you don’t consider it to be at your level?
eh from what I have scene at kung fu events, the sparring will probably end up full contact sparring, not even san da or san sho will matter. most likely turn into a rumble. I have seen better sparring at tae kwan do and karate tournaments, seriously.
Funny, everytime I invite someone over to play and toss them the caged mask they complain that they can’t see through it. Then I tell them, “Well, we’re using boxing gloves so you can leave it off” and over a sudden they can see so good:p
There’s only a problem if you focus on the bar. If you put it on right and gaze at your apponant, it’s no sweat. And if you’re waiting to see the fist, and not moving on the opening of the shoulder or hip you’ll probably get hit anyway.
Tak,
Maybe you have some issues with reading comprehension or with short term memory loss. I have supported Cung Le’s events, I have supported IKF events, I have supported Scott Sheely’s events in Ohio, I have supported Mike Altman’s events in texas.
What I attack, and justifiably so, are these shiiieeetttt events being run by people who don’t know fighting from their rear ends
yeah “San SHAO”, first clue, if you don’t know how to spell the event, what do you know about it
Ahkilleus or whatever his name is tried to slip the issue, these aren’t san shou rules. There are some perverted form of Kuoshu Lei Tai rules. We’ve already discussed how that format has gone no where… and if they want to do Kuoshu rules, why call them San Shou?
My other point still stands, peopel talk about this mythical fighters. Where are they? What events are they fighting in? What titles are they winning?
The top San Shou/San Da guys are also fighting Muay Thai and shootboxing, even boxing. IE they are real fighters
These other mythical “fighters” are fighting in little tiny events against no real competition.
