it is just biomechanics

Guys,

i want to share “my” point of view on the biomechanics. Most of the people who trains “classical martial arts” are more interested in the traditional aspects of the style than to discover/work on the real/natural movement of our body. any person has his own way to move, but basically the body concepts/biomechanics is just the same for everyone…

I started many years ago with this approach, and i discovered that it is mucjh more important to understand and develope MY way to move my body instead to move as my “teacher wants” (so don’t “care” to your teacher/master, feel your body!).

Sorry for my poor English, i don’t want to write too much because is a long matter … i think you could check the following link:
Since now we know about the core of fajing
“the four wheel and the transmission shaft” in the previous post.

Look at one advance style of TCMA,

Pay attention to the four wheel and the transmission in the following clip. that is where the core of fajing handling kung fu is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hyl8mg4Pg6o&feature=related

Also, compare the following within the catagory of the snake engine and the 20 Ch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeqAMDO0a4M&feature=related

and ask a question, do our SLT/SNT training cover these elements and has this depth in details?

Now look at the mma
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p71fHg8vPOQ

use the above basic biomechanics elements to evaluate how much the body satisfy these basic biomechancis keys elements? They dont have to practice TCMA but how is their body performance cover the keys of biomenchanics? how much coverage?

WCK do it differently because it is a different style however, does WCK’s practice satisfy the biomechanical elements and par with the above different style and mmA?

In another words, does your WCK training give you the coverage in basic biomechanics to handle these people above?

These above bring up a political incorrect but important for WCK question.

1, the YJKYM , elbow to center line…with the forward intention…ect Does those really satisfy the basic biomechanics elements needed in a dynamic situation such as mmA?

2, Lap Nim, Nim lik Does lap Nim , Nim lik describe the above biomechanics and neuron programing clearly?

3, Practice the “sam bai fut” section slowly. is that a partial or full activation of the whole body biomechanics?

All of these are political incorrect questions in WCK world, but the reality is how can these typical WCK practice satisfy the basic of biomechanics? is it full? partial? is it static capable? is it dynamic capable? From these we know the boundary or limits.

IMHO, WCners needs to get pragmatic and honest with ourself and know our bottom line.

Same old bifurcation. If you use MMA as the standard you get one path,
if you don’t you get a different path.
Not everyone wants to do MMA.

By passing YKW’s comments no problem with them but he is working on his own synthesis.
And by passing mma related comments.

On Hendrik’s thread starting post:

Hendrik often has problems making himself clear. And I have problems when he generalizes about all of wing chun rather than focusing on his version of wing chun and assumes ignorance on the part of all..

However- he finally was precise enough on the meaning of two doors… partly over- preaching to one section of the choir-mine anyway… “looseness” & “silence” and their equivalents & several other doors are very much part of the wing chun path that I have been on.Important but well known stuff in my neck of the woods… a version of Ip man wing chun.

CXW’s demo of fajin illustrated development. It’s nota demo on fighting. He himself points out that after learning fajin using the frame that he used in the demo you set the frame aside.
I have had quite a few private lessons with CXW and have a good first hand sense of chen style fajin. It’s not just about chen style- it’s away of using the body. On You Tube some time ago there was a video of a young Chen stylist controlling the huge sumo stylist Akebono who was also defeated in mma. I remain a wc guy- using wc to understand natural movement.

Fajin is an important form of power but there are others. In my wing chun path- fajin in Cantonese is “bau ja geng” explode power.

Biomechanics is interesting-- but there are many ways of coordinating putting facts together as Bucky did with the geodesic dome and other works. Thanks (to tan sau ng for the reference)

You brought up a common point of view share by many, and the following is my view.

1,
In my opinion,
The thread is focus on one thing and you expect it to be something else.

2,
There are many ways to generate power provided one uses the key body mechanics.

In term of law of physics and biomachanics.
The Chen method has its pro and con the MMA has its pro can con that is a reality.

Bring in a tiger, Bring in an OX, Bring in a leapad… all can generate power and there is no standard but subject to the law of physics and biology mechanics.

Also, real fighting is like flowing water, one could never step in the same flowing water twice. So, chasing trying to step into the same flowing water again and again is a fantasy. and we are not talking fighting here.

This thread is about satisfying law of physics, biology mechanics, and neuron network. stuck at WCK, MMA, Chen Taiji are all meaningless because those are just name or label of a certain way to do things.

As for

showing it in isolation and compliant partner drills.
as my analogy above we talk CAR here instead of Car racing.

One needs to clarify with the law of Physics and Biomechanics before getting to multi-dependency situation.

Six directional force vectors which is an instantaneous loop closing component with trajectory is present here and explained. Thus, it is not an Open Loop isolation case.

3, The pro and Con compare with MMA and the Chen, in my opinion, is as the following.

A, MMA is based solidly on the body strength of an individual. It is has a great dependency on the person’s health, age, and body condition. it is mostly Raw power as some called it.

The hit target is narrow thus if missed the target recovery is clumpsy.

IE: this is the luxury for the strong and young.

B, Chen taiji is based on some Raw power and lots of elegant manipulation of law of physics and biomechanics. it is much less dependent to person’s health, age, and body condition.

The hit target of this power generation is large, thus, even it missed the momentum still could carry to next continous strike per contact point.

IE: an old person with heart problem can use this type of power to defense him/herself effectively and safely.

C, non isolation, resistance, non compliant …

the dominont factor or the first order response of a close loop system, must be solve in the level of physics and biomechanics before any testing or
rely on RAW power to brute force it out as the only way.

Similar to a car design where one knows the limitation before put in to test drive. at the time of test drive one is just testing the limit of prediction instead of testing what can it do.

One design the car with a clear spec and then test it. testing without knowning the design doesnt make the car to perform better.

Thus,

The following critical keys needs to be address on the core of the power generation; such as a Car’s technical spec is clear at design state which is much earlier then test drive.

Six directional force vectors close loop contact point and trajectory, source of power generation, power transportation needs to be clear and by design instead of as Many TCMA people who take chances un prepare or MMA using RAW power.

Sorry that I use some control system engineering term. I feel it is improtant to introduce them here because power generation is by design and it needs to be clearly identify.

In my opinion,

so, I encourage you to ask your sifu or yourself when dealing with power generation.

1, what is the sources of the power from?
2, What is the power transport mechanics and requirements?
3, What is the trajectory if it is missed, if it got intercept or resist, if it hit the target?

only after you know these above

resistance, non compliying, non isolatoin testing is meaningfull.
otherwise what to test? it is a mess.

and if you know and very clear on the above ; and develop as it is, then, 80% of the outcome must be as you predict. or expected.

Dont buy in on
“oh you got to get into the two doors and you will know”
" tense your body"
" using Nim Lik "
" using your body structure behind…"
" keep training…"
" do it slowly"

Why? because these answer doesnt solve anything and never help you to develop the power clearly ;and then you will end up using the little raw power you have to support your looking great demo show business. and when it comes to facing an MMA guy with all Raw power training you sure will lost. similar to you bring a gun without bullet and trying to fight a tiger you are dead meat. with a gun you have a 50/50 chance but that is another type of ball game.

So, do you have the bullet? or just marching or peraid (sp?) with the empty gun.

That is the reality.

Fajing means issue force, it is not that gimmic shows off demo. it is at every instant how do you issue or juggle with the force, power, momentum. and that is not a single even but a continous handling of body. the whole wing chun forms practice are exactly doing that ---- juggle withe force , power, momentum.

So, from the two doors, to the snake engine, to the six directional force close loop trajectory, to the 20 Ch, to the indepth of power generation ( inplode mode explode mode) to the source of power to the transportation of the power …

Nothing is excessive, indeed one needs to know all of these content to say one has a handling on the topic. No one will be able to know it all but atleast we need to cover the based.

So, Some asked me with PM what is the different between Taichi reel silk, Emei Snake, Shao Lin yi jing jing.

A clip is better then a millions words
take a look and you shall see what is the different, also notice how the loose and silence door are in common in all of them.

reel silk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeqAMDO0a4M&feature=related

emei snake
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HFXIPyKrqs

Shao lin Yi jing jing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNtOtJLspTU&feature=related

Human body is human body , joints are joints. just different ways/approach to handle the biomechanics and developing/transform the body for different uses.

The above are the Three core “DNA” of TCMA which develop different type of “Engine”.

now,

look at WCK and see for yourself which “DNA” it likely evolve from?

start at 1.12
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiBMTLGfC3E&feature=related

start at 3.23
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4eWIAYvf9Q

Due to the different of the “engine”, the 3 major system of China — Wu Dang, Shao Lin, Emei take different approach of doing things. and thus, their application technics and straregy are different. For example, different type of car will result in different type of handling.

So, if one use and application with a wrong type of engine. that is not effective and efficient or natural fit. one has to use the engine as what it is for and what it can do.

we are talking about biomechanices and power generation…just pointing out that all of what henrick talks about is only shown in isolation never in a full contact enviroment, be it MMA , sanda or even just hard sparring

I am using the standard of simply being able to actually use that power generation practically and show it in action against a resisting moving opponent, which no one seems to be able to do

For the record i have done tai chi and some southern arts, i got to the standard i could break wood with one inch and no inch hits (hand touching the wood no pull back) i trained the relaxtion, fa jing and ging power, however the fact remians i have never seen anyone hit like that or move like that in an actual fight, of course i might have been rubbish and so might my teachers, thats why i act to see it in action and why i am sceptical of those that claim because they can do it in air they can use it in a fight

and if you have to train the frame and then set it aside in an actual fight how useful is that frame to start with

thats nice but again its not something i can verify, i am simply saying that there are no clips of people doing what chen is doing and then using that in a fight in the same way…and no one strikes like that out side of demos

sanda is the chinese platform for sparring correct, can you point to anyone using fa jing like it is trained and hitting like that there?

i know i know not everone likes to post clips…but if the guys are happy to post demos whats stopping them posting other stuff

Great,

Please share you experience

on

1, how relax is relaxed? what is the indication of relax?

2, please share with us the following of the jin or Fajin from the Taiji and southern art you have train in.

1, what is the sources of the power from?
2, What is the power transport mechanics and requirements?
3, What is the trajectory if it is missed, if it got intercept or resist, if it hit the target?

see, I dont care about label ; also I dont care about breaking wood from 1 inch or zero inch…etc ;
What I am looking into is what have you train in details, the above three question could help one to look into what one really trains in and what one really has.
((I think you misunderstood what CXW was talking about and doing.I have seen him use his power when someone attacked him in a demo. That is why he now has a policy of written waivers in seminars,))
I agree Frost misunderstood what CXW was talking about.

and if you have to train the frame and then set it aside in an actual fight how useful is that frame to start with --Frost

The whole deal is like using two extra small side wheels to help to learn how to ride a bicycle. After one knows how to ride one let go that two small wheels forever.

How useful is the frame? very useful and critical before one gets “it”.
those are for fine tune one’s power transfort and power sources combination weight purpose similar to tuning piano.

And then, after one knows how to fajin according to one’s particular style say Chen Taiji here; every move and every part of the body could strike according to the way of the style; without has to use any fix shape or frame or predetermine preparation.

Only up to this level one could say one knows fajin of the particular style and have a handle in the skill. One certainly test this skill with opponents/under resistance…etc, in heavy bag, in wooden dummy, with trees, or special made object.

So, the real deal is not those demo or religion ritual type of show business. That is my personal experience investigating these type of stuffs.

As for CXW’s it is obvious his power generation is not those RAW type but Chen Reel Silk type.it is obvious different part of his body could do strike as needed at contact without predetermine or preparation since it is not a demo but " power point explosion" as Garry Lam put it.

This is a different class of art compare with those one sees for demo or show business.
This thread is to investigate those type of power and its biomechanics.

why because i dont take things on blind faith and actually ask for some sort of proof?

This master put clips out there of how to do fa jung correct? so he must think its important so what exactly is stopping him showing it in action?

I mean if he wanted to keep it secret and closed door i have no problem with that. i have no problem with people who dont care for videos, but HE has made the clips about what is correct fa jing etc so he must care and must have access to videos, its a martial art right so why not show it in a martial setting?

From the comments on that clip - “this guy looks like the worst wrestler in history”.

I would have to agree. Let’s see Huang take that on over to Russia and try the same tactics on the Russian national team. That would remove any cultural bias on effectiveness.

From another comment on the second clip:

“If Huang is a ‘world class’ Tai Chi guy, then he should consider going against another ‘world class’ wrestler of the time, say like: Dan Gable?”
