KF vs. MMA video; What would you have done?

I’d like to see any wrestler take on a Hung Ga player. That style is designed to take on wrestlers. Or how 'bout Bak Mei, SPM, xing-yi, or Chen Taiji (all these styles have proven themselves again and again). If people think that kung fu is just some kind of jumping around karate then they’ve never seen the real deal. I don’t know what that dude in the video was playing but it looked more like Karate Kid than kung fu.

lol at Fu-Pow… I agree, too many practitioners get caught up with fighting like a kickboxer, too many preconcieved notions of what a “kung fu fight” should look like.

I think that guy is supposed to be a shan soo teacher or something. I’m hoping for his sake that he usually doesn’t open with a weak kick like that, especially when you know the person you are fighting is trying to take it to the ground.

That’s right baby. Kung Fu = Street fighting. But only if you really understand your art. I sparred this guy who tried to get fancy and open up with a double front kick. I caught his leg with my arm (crane wing) and he landed flat on his back. That kind of stuff is karate kid stuff. People get the wrong idea watching movies. Real kung fu is simple, brutal, bone breaking, face smashing, joint dislocating, throat collapsing and all around nasty stuff.

That is why it is so necessary to develop good character and a peaceful heart to complement your training. Then you will learn when it is appropriate to use your art and to refrain and not go around hurting people to satisfy your own ego. In this sense society was better off before guns. Now any wacko can assume martial skill by going down to the sports counter at wal-mart.

thanks!

Gary

look at both guys

the REASON WHY the kung fu guy got his arse defeated is because he tried to defy the basic laws of physics. he went up against a very In shape guy with strength all around. the “KUNG FU Guy” looked like he was out of shape and not trained for anything other than to be a fantasy hollywood fighter. given that i feel that Kung fu is effective when you TRAIN PROPERLY AND WHEN YOU FIGHT REAL instead of doing all this hoakey pokey shtuff. we see time and time again that in the world of FIGHTING its the FIGHTERS that win,not the hollywood kung fu practitioners.
Many Respects,The Willow SWord

Royce would choke this thread.

I see everybody is on the same page.

PLEASE STOP CALLING THIS GUY A “KUNG FU GUY” !!!

Ok I’m done venting

carry on

LOL, SifuAbel

Yes.

Shrimping is getting your hips away from them by simply turning towards them and making your elbow and knees touch to create space. Then you take the bottom of your legs and push your knee into their stomach and then the rest of the way through. Many people call this the elbow to knee escape

The things i have a problem with?

  1. Why does the “kung fu guy” have both his hands down by his side when he starts, and then shuffles in like a retard?
  2. Why does he throw a kick so bad that he not only telegraphs it from across the room, but practically misbalances, falls over himself, and puts himself on the ground?
  3. Are the people i’ve seen in this and similar video’s retarded or something? Are they unable to stand up or something? In this and a number of other video’s i’ve seen the guy taken to the ground is not done so by any skill of the “grappler”, but by the other guy seemingly being unable to attack without falling over.
I mean seriously, in half of the videos i see, the “grappling” guy holds on to the upperbody of the “striker” and the striker just decides to fall over? Are these people retarded, or is there some kind of “chi” manipulation used by these grapplers that i’m not aware of
