“First, let’s explore the bong sao from a usage perspective. That is to say “when should I use bong sao”. The short answer is: “very rarely”. Bong sao is the last defence technique which will be available when the tan sao (or another technique) fails you. If your technique is practiced enough and your timing and sensitivity are great, your other techniques will always be available to intercept and you’ll never be put in a position where you must use bong sao as a block to a technique. That is to say - don’t get into the habit of using bong sao to handle every attack. This will not increase your skill - it’ll just stop you from getting hit (by the juniors).”
Sorry for the long post.
Just wondering about your opinions on the above.
It’s not my statement. Of course, by now, you should know that I would not write that much.
I go into a bong sau when I have to.
I dont normaly force it.
When I go to fight I enter with my wedge and perhaps with a kick.
Example:I am attacking the guy and he stops me and I have to go into a bong sau because of the direction of his block, deflection,or attack.

Example of forcing it.
When the guy is pushing on me.I dont push back at him by going straight at him but by going to a bong sau with the circular movement forcefuly deflecting him.

Whipping hand_ bong sao question-after quoting someone else
“It’s not my statement. Of course, by now, you should know that I would not write that much.”
I see no problem in brevity and getting a conversation going.
To my mind bong sao is as important as tan and fok- after all they are to be harmonized in chi sao. But the energies of the 3 are different- so
harnessing them and balancing them in good chi sao and practical usage takes time.Bong sao springs into place after certain kinds of contact.
One should not make a bong sao and then apply it after contact it seems to me. Some lines see bong sao purely as a defnsive deflection.Their preogative. To mind however it has
attacking potential after contact as well.
Use according to what your training taught you.

Re: Bong Sao
I have to agree with whipping hand. Bong sao is the weakest of the 3 seeds of Wing chun (Tan sao, fook sao, bong sao). Bong sao may be a weak technique but it does get you out in a difficult situation. On good example is when your opponent has penetrated your inner gate. More often than not, the only thing you can do is bong sao in order to regain the centerline.
Bong does not have to be weak. Different lineages emphasize different aspects.
Here in the UK, for example, some schools lift it vertically, to deflect a strike. They see it as a more defensive move.
We are taught (WSL lineage) to drive to the oppponents oppposing shoulder. This diverts the opponents arm sideways, spins him, and allows your simultaneous punch over the bong. Bong thus becomes a more offensive action, as a lapsao is not required in order to hit.

The vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true!
In that situation do you not think its a bit risky crossing youi arms over as you could easily be trapped
hi my friends
bong sao is position tho use for conection bettwen two position and for penetration to opponent. automaticly if bong sao use for defence give opportunity for speed atact. -just frindly tiger_1 ![]()

Various comments on bong sao
bong sao is not really “weak”. Atleast the term can be ,misleading. You cannot easily push back a good bong sao. That is one of Tsui Tsong Tin’s favorite demonstrations. The bong sao simply uses less energy than the tan and much much less tension. Most bad bong sao that I have seen wrongly use
lifting the elbow straight up. The bong sao motion when done right can be used for defense
or contact. Of course it is best shown- which is one of the limitations in our conversations. One poster worried about a bong sao being trapped.
Chi sao skills result in transformations when someone tries to trap a wing chun person. ![]()
The boing sao is used with a springy motion.

hi my friends
my friends in speed real fight bong sao you can use only for penetration and conection bettwen positions newer like defence position in your fight,(or is just excidently) cose that is most hiden parth tho can give opportunity for good strike to opponent central line . ( wingchunger can learn just basic of chisao, sistem of chisao wingchunger must have inside ) - just friendly tiger_1 ![]()

I did not suggest that bong sau is the weakest. The quote did.
