block uppercut sow choy

here is another set of photo’s of how we do our choy lee fut.

in the first photo my sifu is in the guard.

the second photo he steps up into a seven star stance blocking a punch while simulaneously delivering an uppercut.

the third photo is using the inside hand my sifu strikes the back of the head and neck with a cup/sow choy.

after that there are many other opportunities to keep up the strikes but i will stop there.

Pretty cool stuff Frank. I won’t spoil your thread this time, promise!!!

I can see how that stuff works. But wouldn’t a more narrow stance work also during the fan jong; easier movement. Or do you prefer to root and attack?

Meh, I guess it’s all situational anyways. Forget what I said.

infrazael.

im sorry or snapping on you. thanks for the comments. but i want you to know that we sparr like crazy too. we strike full blast when we hit focus mits, or any type of striking implement.

i will be posting a few shots of tonites sparring session between two of my students. pls check those out. i have a digital camera so the i did the best i could with action shots. you know digital cameras dont snap right away.

but thanks for the kind words this time.

Hey man, it’s all good and forgotten. I get emotional easily, and I’m a passionate man about my Art, but I don’t like holding grudges (my stepdad is a little different . . . . situation) or making enemies if I can help it.

I was just trying to defend the Art of CLF, trying to preserve it as best as I can without spoiling the true meaning. I didn’t want to water down my style because we can’t do certain techniques; I didn’t want to hold back what we do. I wanted to TEST OUR FIST against other styles. If strategy A doesn’t work, what can I work with with my CLF arsenal? That’s pretty much it. I’ve talked to SO many kung fu people who don’t pressure test, who don’t train their Fist old school, who don’t know anything regarding fighting in general.

Not to say I’m any good. In fact I consider myself quite a bad fighter, and I intend to keep thinking that way. I don’t like it when people say I’m good, because knowing my limitations forces me to improve.

If you guys do the full arsenal of training, then I give props to you man. Too many Arts. . . . . . have been watered down IMO. What is “traditional?” Traditional means getting out there and taking a beating. It means taking a stand and not backing down against other styles’ challenges, mockery, etc. It means standing up to the stereotype that Kung Fu is for a load of weak degenerates who know nothing about fighting.

Because as CLF cats we should know our abilities. And we should, consciously, actively, PROVE our meaning and definition of contact to other people. I don’t care if you call this childish, egotistical, arrogant, or foolish.

I don’t like sitting on my ass and practicing just drills. I want contact, I want to fight, I want to be able to do what I do REGARDLESS OF RULES OR CONFINEMENT.

If you’re techniques are limited, think of another way. Adapt. If you can’t do that, you’ll always be a loser.

Because in the real world, things are never going to be the way you want.
No Art is replacing CLF. Stuff compliments it, stuff works alongside it. If something is contradictory, or just PLAIN WON’T WORK, then simple. I WON’T USE IT.

Thanks Frank for understanding. I think we are really on the same page, but just used different words. When two people who are both extremely passionate about their chosen Art-Fist. . . . . . misunderstanding can occur.

Peace everyone

no worries, infra…i still love you my choy lee fut brother.

This is funny. First picture showing your sifu starting a fight on his back foot. Ever thought of guarding his face?

Second picture Ask your sifu if that block will work agaisnt a boxer’s jab? and also ask him why he steps across the opponent’s front leg? Has he practiced iron crotch?

Why is the demo person’s right shoulder popping up? Looks very uncomfortable.

Does the block in pic 2 turn into the cup/sow choy in pic 3?

Looks like a great technique.

Great pics Frank. Keep posting 'em.

thanks CFT,

and green willow, my sifu is in a defensive Cat Stance position. if you knew anything about gung fu you would know you don’t always have to be in any position to start out.

but i would never expect your dumb ass to know anything but talking shet on a forum.

poosie!!! you couldn’t beat my little sister while she was in the crib you skilless piece of crap.

HSK,

Love the pics…great app (even though the guy getting beat up looks a little
soft;) )

I just talked to my Sifu today and he was telling me how your Sifu is no joke…keep the pics comming…

Oh and Green Willow…you suck:eek:

Like who?

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

GreenCloudCLF,

nah, my classmates not sof at all. i mean he’s a nice guy, but he is the one who trains the Bay Area police force self defense tactics.

yes Lau Buns gung fu mixed with MMA submissions, and afew other ingredients is being taught to the police.

He beat a buk sing kwooon student whose a cop at the police olympics which are held annually.

he has left the TCMA behind but has extrapulated the best of our CLF, he has crossed trained with different coaches for his stand up in the ring. but his root will always be Choy Lee Fut.

Ultimately i think everyone that learns TCMA should develop there own way of fighting as like MMA Submissions, Ive designed my own YKM Internal Combat Grappling system using the methods and principles for both ring and street. No Traditional hand forms just pads, conditioning, sparing, chi kung, strength , submission grappling.

Should be interesting soon for me, ill be entering the grapling circuits trying my YKM grappling system in march. Hopefully i can strip the weight off more otherwise ill be fighting heavy weight roid monsters. I have students interested in Shooto MMA as well grappling, so its all about evolving and getting getter which i feel forms do not. Sounds like Lau Bun is a very smart man!!

FT

thanks fiercest tiger. keep us updated on your match, and i say kick his arse, since i know sifu derek in san francisco of YKM.

here are 4 more. this set shows just one way to escape and counter an arm bar/elbow lock.

open for comments, and green algae no one cares.

Hey Frank,

I dont know Derek of YKM U.S.A but please pass on my regards from his family in OZ.

Ill give you an update regarding the tourny, win or loose im in it to develope my garppling game. I rolled with a BJJ school last week and tapped out there beginners. Oh, ive only been developing my submisisons from YKM for a few weeks! lol

be easy
FT

sure thing, i will also pm you and send you my address, if you want to send me a business card i will pass that on as well.

yeah derek i think is the head of SF-USA YKM, and they have been good friends with us for a long time.

People from the limitless McDojos, people from other Kwoons (whatever style) that I’ve seen spar in which they seem to be lacking in fundamentals. A large number of them are Wing Chun guys; some kid from my school who does Wing Chun. I’ve talked to a few Hung Gar people too, they don’t spar that much and basically do forms all day. . . . . . .

These are people from real lineages too. Not Temple Kung Fu or Shaolin Do. Yet their way of training is still. . . . . . . . soft.

Some Triva, YKM Grandmaster Ha Hon Hung was a CLF sifu back in hs homw village before learning bak mei and YKM. Also i think he did some Hung Gar or something!

We have a form called Ying Ching Kuen Green Swallow fist, i was told it was created by HHH using his CLF, Bak Mei, hung kuen. It has pow choy, Kup Choy, sow choy as well dynamic tension. I really enjoy this form for its all round hand ranges and power training. It was my Sifus favourite form as well!

regards
Garry:)

I know the name of that stance, tiger riding etc… what ever you want to call it. I also know it is defensive. Hence the question why?

Ask your sifu whether he knows that a stance is the end result of some previous action not a starting position? Also ask him why isn’t he guarding his face? 2 hands down where they are is not very useful especially defending that low can be taken care of by lifting the knee - correct?

As for comments about your sister - you probably spit the dummy more frequently than she does. I already told you not to be a cry baby.

So, what’s it called when starting out? You lost me on that one.

BTW, it’s kind of funny you questioning whether Frank’s Sifu knows anything about fighting. That’s a good one.

Starting out? that’s a term used by hskwarrior - not me. I’ve no idea what starting out means.

But if you’re aking me about how you should stand before a fight - well best to be in a neutral position, arms guarding - open palm - not to appear aggressive - and keep moving so the oppoent can’t triangulate you.

Hopefully the situation dissapates because your oppoent knows he can’t get a clear shot, or if he chances a shot - he’ll over commit and that’s your chance.

But not in a cat stance position - it sends a signal to the other guy - hey - that’s a kung fu man. what value is that?
