I’m sick of hearing this “can’t we all just get along” crap from you guys.
The fact is that there is no such thing as a “martial arts” community.
We are not all “brothers and sisters” in martial arts.
In fact there probably many of us that couldn’t even sit in the same room together.
The truth is that most martial artists are fiercely independent people.
If they weren’t they’d be playing volleyball or soccer or some other team sport.
They are fiercely proud of their own style and their own tradition.
The reason that they picked the style that they are in is because in their mind they thought it was “the best.”
And if they stuck with it then in their minds it is still "the best. "
What’s the point of my thread?
Despite this fiercely independent mindset. We still hate to see people being slighted by HUCKSTERS and CHARLATANS.
There are people out there who misrepresent themselves as having FIGHTING ABILITY or even ELEMENTARY martial arts training.
They have the audacity to CHARGE people for what they have no real knowledge of themselves.
To people who are receiving GENUINE training the difference is obvious.
To those that are new to martial arts and have no background they will get taken for a very costly RIDE.
I have people in my school who got taken for $1000’s of dollars by fraudulent “martial arts” organizations only to realize that the stuff they were learning was totally made up and ineffective.
Sorry guys…I have no problem calling outright FRAUDs when I see them. Hopefully, it will help potential students who read this forum from wasting their time and money.
I would never judge an individual martial artist without seeing him perform.
There are good karate practioners, taekwondo, BJJ, etc, etc.
And there are bad ones.
I still have respect for those that mights “suck” as long as they don’t lie about what they are.
When I go to a website and see huge cultural inconsistencies(which you would only realize if you studied Asian culture), ridiculous lineage claims, ridiculous title claims and the quality of the performances that I see on clips from so called “masters” is sub par it raises BIG red flags.
If we are any kind of “community” we must weed these people out and expose them for what they are.
In the old days you’d just go down to their school and challenge them to a test of hands. Not so easy a thing to do in this day and age.
As The Meecer incorrectly surmised I’m not berating someone’s style. I’m calling out frauds and charlatans and saving the “face” of our “community.”
And also, no one said that we have to be “nice” about it. It’s not “nice” to take someone for their time and money either.
