2015 Tiger Claw Elite Championships & KUNG FU TAI CHI DAY Part 2: Form Not Mind, Step Not Heart
The 2016 Tiger Claw Elite Championships and KUNG FU TAI CHI DAY is scheduled for May 2122. Next year is the Year of the Monkey, so we will hold a Showcase Division, the Monkey King Championship, open to all proponents of Monkey Style Kung Fu. We are consolidating our event so it will all be held in the South Hall of San Jose McEnery Convention Center. This wont affect the non-Chinese Championships, only the KungFuMagazine.com Championship. Both the Internal and Showcase Divisions will be held on Sunday. Sunday will also have all of the attractions of KUNG FU TAI CHI DAY, the Masters Demonstration and workshops, and it will be free admission for spectators.

We are also developing another Showcase Division, the 1st Wushu Nandu Championship. Spearheading this are veteran Wushu proponents Emilio Alpanseque and Brandon Sugiyama. Advanced Nandu athletes will compete with ONE Empty Hand Routine (Changquan, Nanquan, Taijiquan) and ONE Short Weapon Routine (Daoshu, Jianshu, Nandao, Taijijjian) for a combined total score that will determine the winner of each division. There will only be four divisions: Mens 1417 years or 18+ years and Womens 1417 years or 18+ years. This Championship will use the International Wushu Federation IWUF 2005 Rules for judging. As a Showcase Division, the Wushu Nandu Championship is independent of the Modern Wushu Divisions and will have no effect upon the Modern Wushu Grand Champions. This will be held on Saturday, but the other Showcase Championships, the WildAid Tiger Claw Championship, the Monkey King Championship and the Drunken Style Championship (if we find a sponsor) will be held on Sunday.

First Wushu Nandu Championship!

Nan means difficulty in Chinese while Du means degree(s). Wushu (or modern Chinese martial arts) Nandu competition is similar to the Olympic gymnastic games that judges use a stringent standard to score every detailed move that a Wushu contestant makes. It is mandatory that high-intensity and high-difficulty moves to be included in the routines to challenge an athlete’s limits. It is also true that a tournament host needs to be well organized and uphold the highest standard to provide world-class competition facility and an excellent team of judges. After hosting seven successful reputable championships, the Tiger Claw Elite KungFuMagazine.com Championship is hosting the first Wushu Nandu Championship on Saturday May 21st at the San Jose McEnergy Convention Center.

KungFuMagazine.com

There will be four divisions for this Championship: Wushu Nandu 17 and under for female, Wushu Nandu 17 and under for male, Wushu Nandu 18 and over for female, and Wushu Nandu 18 and over for male. Competition Events include the “Optional Bare Hand Routines: Changquan, Nanquan, and Tai Chi Chuan (Taiji)” and the “Optional Short Weapon Routine: Daoshu, Jianshu, Nandao, and Tai Chi Sword (Taijijian)”. Athletes will compete with one bare hand routine and one short weapon routine for a combined total score. Unless otherwise stated within these regulations, these divisions will implement the 2005 IWUF “Scoring Method and Criteria for Degree of Difficulty of Movements of Optional Routines”. Athletes may choose to register and perform grade A and/or B degree of difficulty techniques within their routines. If they choose to register and perform grade C degree of difficulty techniques, the value awarded for these will be those of the B degree of difficulty. Accompanying music is required for Tai Chi routines. This is a pre-registration tournament only. Online registration website is available here. Registrations must be turned in no later than May 11th, 2016.

A combined total score of the Bare Hand Routine and the Short Weapon Routine will determine the Wushu Nandu Champion of each division. Winners will be awarded with a custom trophy and will be showcased in Kung Fu Tai Chi magazine throughout the following year. In addition, winners of the adult divisions will earn a Claw Cash prize equivalent of $200 towards purchases on TigerClaw.com. As a Showcase Division, the Wushu Nandu Championship is independent of the Modern Wushu Divisions of the Tiger Claw Elite KungFuMagazine.com Championship and will have no effect upon the Modern Wushu Grand Champions. For more information, you can visit the official website.

Note: You can use video links here to see what Nandu standards for Degree A, Degree B, and Degree C can be. But refer to the 2005 IWUF “Scoring Method and Criteria for Degree of Difficulty of Movements of Optional Routines” for the true judging standard.

I didn’t copy the vids and all the links.

Registration is now closed.

We have reached our competitor cap. We are only accepting registration for the Showcase Divisions: WildAid Tiger Claw Championship, Monkey King Championship and Wushu Nandu Championship. Contact Gigi Oh at 408-209-8150 or Gigi@TCMedia.com for Showcase Division registration.
