If you’re wondering why the Chinese coverage is so early, it’s because we release some info to certain masters so they can try to get their visas in order ahead of time. This is critical for teams travelling from China.

The Songshan Shaolin Division

The 10th Tiger Claw Elite KungFuMagazine.com Championship is adding a new division this year, the Songshan Shaolin Division, which is exclusively for practitioners of Shaolin Kung Fu currently taught as part of the common curriculum at the original Shaolin Temple on Songshan (Song Mountain) today. This is in the tradition of the Songshan Shaolin Champion, the Showcase Championship that was held at the Tiger Claw Elite KungFuMagazine.com Championships from 2011 to 2014. For 2018, this is its own unique division, just like Traditional Kung Fu or Modern Wushu, complete with age and gender divisions and Grand Champions. The Advanced Grand Champions can compete against Traditional Kung Fu or Modern Wushu for the Overall Grand Championship title. The Songshan Shaolin Division serves the ever-growing community of Shaolin schools in the San Francisco Bay Area connected to the Shaolin Temple, as well as the expanding community worldwide.

Update

KU YU-CHEUNG BAK SIL LUM CHAMPION ( ))

The KU YU-CHEUNG BAK SIL LUM Champion is a specific lineage of Northern Shaolin from Grandmaster Ku Yu-Cheung of Guangdong. Competitors in this division must be able to provide their lineage linking them to Grandmaster Ku. The winner will receive custom trophy and spotlight in Kung Fu Tai Chi magazine. The KU YU-CHEUNG BAK SIL LUM Champion serves the ongoing community of Bak Sil Lum schools in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as the longstanding community worldwide.

The Ku Yu-Cheung Bak Sil Lum Champion is restricted exclusively to the 10 Hand Forms practiced by the Ku Yu-Cheung Bak Sil Lum lineage, specifically 1. Koy Moon (), 2. Leng Low (), 3. Jow Mah (), 4. Chum Sam (), 5. Mo I (), 6. Tun Da (), 7. Moi Fah (), 8. Bot Bo (), 9. Lien Wan (), 10. Sik Fot (). One winner will be declared as the 2018 KU YU-CHEUNG BAK SIL LUM Champion. Second and third place competitors will receive a silver and bronze medal respectfully. If a potential competitor isn’t sure if their form meets the qualifications of the 2018 KU YU-CHEUNG BAK SIL LUM Champion, it is probably that it does NOT, however, email Gene@KungFuMagazine.com for a ruling.

BAK SIL LUM Champion competitors will adhere to the GENERAL CHINESE DIVISION RULES for Advanced Traditional Kung Fu. The judging panel will consist of 5-7 judges familiar with Ku Yu-Cheung’s system of Bak Sil Lum. The highest and lowest scores will be discarded. Competitors will be judged on a scale of 1-10.

Any form descended from Ku Yu-Cheung Bak Sil Lum (Northern Shaolin) may still compete under the Traditional Kung Fu Division. Unlike the Songshan Shaolin Division, the Ku Yu-Cheung Bak Sil Lum Champion is a Showcase Champion, which is independent from the different divisions and the Division and Overall Grands

Serving as Judges are three leading exponents of Ku Yu-Cheung Bak Sil Lum: Sifu Kenneth Hui, Sifu Robert Louie and Sifu Ted Mancuso.

The Champion will be awarded a placarded commemorative Five Tiger Sword (http://www.martialartsmart.com/45s-58.html) plus Five Books from Plum Publishing (plumpub.com): T’ai Chi Ch’uan by Gu Ru Zhang and four on Bak Sil Lum autographed by author Sifu Ted Mancuso: Staff: The Kung Fu Weapon of Skill, Kung Fu Saber: The Tiger Leaps, Kung Fu Spear: King of Weapons, and The Bandit Knife: Kung Fu’s Rebellious Weapon. One winner takes it all.
