I can honestly say that I do OK creating space for my training and get enough done to be right where I should be.
But the one thing that kills me is FATIGUE.
This is because I work 3 jobs: teaching assistant at a university, intern at a county Planning department, and freelance classical violinist/violin teacher. I am “also” a Masters Student of Geography at that same university.
The fatigue is more mental than physical, I’d say. Even then, I don’t feel right if I haven’t practiced my kung fu. To me, training in kung fu is more important than anything else I do (save training in classical violin).
I would imagine that the violin takes a load of you time.. When I was seriously into piano, I practiced at least 3 hours a day on school days and 5 on weekends.
As long as this much isn’t damaging to your health (mentally and physically), then I suppose it is OK.

I don’t have a partner to train with so I am lacking in furthering my development of listening energy and other aspects of two man exercises that are crucial to well rounded development right now.
Gives me plenty of time to work all the other stuff I have been taught though
20 years? Wow. I just made 10.5 years when I quit piano.. Things for me got too complicated and I didn’t have time to develop anymore. I practice once in a while now. I suppose its fitting.

Working rotating shifts, a second part time job, and family life in general. I still manage to teach for six hours a week, but my personal training time is non-existant.
Working all week every week with my family!!! :mad:
But I am leaving in 8 weeks to start training Wing Chun full time. Can’t wait.
Also injury. I had a couple of broken bones from Boxing & Muay Thai, & that certainly slows ya down.

Nothing really stands in the way of my training, except for school, sometimes i have sooooooo much homework, but i usually train anyways, and forget to do my homework until the day before it’s due
I don’t have a training partner, so i don’t get a lot of chi sau in, but i do forms, basics, and work on the wooden man, so i have lots of stuff to do
The object is not to hurt someone else, but to stop them from hurting you

got my wife and kids plus a granddaughter,got my 8 hour a day job{steelworker},got my music,been playing guitar in bands for 30 years,got my weight training,20 years,got my passion,kung fu{tcpm}14 years,teaching takes up most of my class time but i still train for tournys{usually lunch time at work},then theres weekend lion dances and demos,just one problem,carent seem to fit in another passion of mine,art,oh well gotta save something for my retirement.cheers
Like others here, my first job, 8-5 monday through friday, second job, another 20 hours a week, a wife, 3 kids (one is a new born) and daily/weekly house work. Right now I can’t afford to even continue at a school, but don’t even have enough time to practice the basics at home.
