Dear all,
I am having difficulty in finding the spare time to train for 2 hours a day. I can only managed for about 0.5 -1 hour training a day at the moment. How do you find the time to train, while socializing on the internet, working and having a family life?

Something has to give. Either you sleep less, spend less time with family, socialize on the internet less, or train less.
i socialize on the internet at work. i have broken my day up into segments. i have to work 8 hours. i sleep about 8 hours. so that leaves 8 hours to train, work out, watch tv, go out, etc. 8 hours (as every work day proves) is a long time. so i spend about 4 of those hours with my wife and about 3-4 of them between kung fu, and the gym. not every day mind you but most days. luckily i don’t have kids so that is not a consideration and my wife has her own hobbies (training for a triathlon and whatnot) and stuff so she is cool with me spending time doing my thing. but yeah if i go to basics class for an hour, handsets for an hour, the gym for an hour with the travel time factored in from my apartment to the school to the gym and back tot he apartment its about 4 hours. the harder part is finding time to eat that isnt right before bed.
if you really are having trouble finding time to your self wake up earlier and exercise/train for .5-1 hour before your morning shower. it will make you have more energy throughout the day. its just hard getting in the habit of waking up earlier. that way when you practice in the evening you have effectively doubled your normal amount of training time. day to day life is like a jigsaw puzzle. gotta figure out how it all fits together.
another thing that might help you be more efficient is carry a note book and write down what you do for every half hour of every day for 10 days. then look at it and figure out where the time is slipping through. then create a a schedule that you can break into 3 blocks. work, sleep, other. then make a schedule to break your other time up and use effectively. thats what i did and it helped a lot. although it is a little retentive. the only real problem is if you are not intrinsicaly motivated to follow your schedule you need to figure out ways to reward the positive behavior (following your schedule) and consequence your negative (breaking it without good reason) and then you have to be strict with your self and live up to the consequences of your actions.
o yeah lunch hour is a great time to do stuff.if you work the kind of job where you can eat while working. that would mean you can work out for like 45 minutes 15 to shower and change and back to work. just bring a sammich.

What are your training goals? If you’re a recreational martial artists then training for hours a day may not be needed.

Yeah if you have one of these cushy corporate jobs where it’s hard to get fired, you can come in at 9:30, work a couple of hours, leave at 11:30 to go to practice (we had these guys who did that all the time for soccer), come back at 2:30 or so, put in a couple more hours, then give the rest of your work to some poor contractor, and leave early to go home to the kids at 4:30.
If they threaten to fire you or give you poor performance reviews, just drop hints about a harassment or discrimination lawsuit. It will cost them more to fire you then keep you, so they’ll never get rid of you. That’s what a ton of people did at my last job.
All the more reason to apply yourself at work and get one of those cushy jobs. They’re great.
If you have any non-white in you at all or you’re a woman, it’s like instant job security. You don’t even have to apply yourselves. Especially if you’re an ethnic woman. They try to get rid of you just drop hints of sexual harassment or discrimination.
They do it all the time at corporates. Women come in at 9:30 after dropping the kids off, go for long lunches, leave at 4:00 to pick up the kids, then ‘work from home’ in the evening (yeah, right) … answer a couple of emails. You don’t even have to be a woman, like I said, we had 2 guys at my last job that did this all the time for playing soccer. Took 3 hour long lunches and left early for their kids.
I brought it up with my boss and he said they couldn’t fire them that it was too hard. They just gave the extra work to contractors.
Of course, they don’t have to give you any promotions, either, but if you don’t mind being stuck at the same level the rest of your life, it should be perfect for you.
hey neil do you always have a huge chip on your shoulder is it just recently? i guess i never really paid attention before but lately i notice all your posts are really jaded and angry. just curious man.

Nah, I just stopped lying on the forum and pretending to be nice.
Nice job Neil, I think you’ve just insulted whites, blacks and women who work their ass off.
I’m not saying there aren’t people who work their asses off in corporates of all races and genders. I’ve met a lot of them – they’re usually the ones who get good bonuses and promoted and stuff.
But like I said, my last job it was a real problem with certain people doing any work at all, and I brought it up with my boss and he said they couldn’t fire them because it would cost them too much in lawsuits and stuff.
So I’m just saying it like it is.
Basically to get fired these days in a lot of big corporates you have to do something seriously wrong – porn, violence, stealing, sex on the job, etc. Just bad performance and leaving early and stuff isn’t enough.
what is hypocritical? that people can use their lunch hour to go to the gym or go for a jog or train their MA? dude its an hour. how long does it take you to eat a sammich? i think you are just looking for something to complain about bc you have nothing of substance to say. which is fine i never have any thing substantial to add but at least i try to make dumb comments that might entertain rather than complain about everything. life’s too good to go around being so bitter. and if yours isn’t maybe its time to change something.

Oh, and I guess I was a little ticked because the sorry truth I guess is that:
a) I’m not going to find a good martial arts school like I used to go to 20 years ago.
b) My last teacher was only interested in $$$. I guess the fact he got the most excited was when people were paying him should have been a red flag there.
So if I come off as against scammers and hipocrisy and people doing things for $$$ instead of really teaching martial arts, then perhaps it’s because of those reasons.
