visiting a school

what is the proper way to visit a different wc school? is there a formal way to make sure it is proper and respectful? i will be traveling and i would like to visit other wc schools on my travels. should i bring gifts? should i let the sifu know of my lineage and teacher? what is proper?

give a big fat red envelope with anywhere between $2000-5000 US and you can become a closed-door disciple for many

do not let alarm bells ring in your head b/c apparently this is the mark of a true master. it is not outright monetary greed but rooted in respect and tradition. heck piano and art teachers missed out in the past!!!

seriously the modern schools that are not out of some guy’s basement should be pretty easy to visit. A call in advance, a drop-in to respectfully introduce yourself and your lineage, some respectful questions and respectful watching of a class, maybe some lessons too if you pay and some respectful chi sau that can often lead to some UFC/Pride/K-1 event

for the basement ppl even though they teach tax-free you might be better off bringing some chinese pasteries or a cake. Nothing too expensive yet thoughtful. This is because this is their home and they are welcoming a stranger in.

Hey- I pay taxes. Never play games with the IRS.

Pastries? Gotta do better than that…steamed Chilean bass
and pastries might do it-once-depends on mood and attitude..

Oops. In Canada we don’t have to worry about that
