Roy Jones Jr (the Real Deal)

thekuntawman

You forget that Roy broke his hand in that first fight with Hopkins and still won a unanimous decision. The speed and the angles that Roy gets is unbelievable. He is bigger, stronger and faster than Bernard; Hopkins is going to have to pull out a miracle in this fight.

ARCHANGEL

Bernard has gotten better, so has Roy. Nobody in this
game has more heart than Bernard. He’s got a solid shot at
beating Roy. He won’t win on points but he might get a sneaky K.O.
Nobody Knows what Roy’s got for whiskers and he doesn’t exactly fight guys that can test 'em.

Underdogs with heart often come up big.
Like the New England Patriots, Vernon Forrest, Buster Douglas and Cassius Clay v. Liston.

Underdogs with heart often come up big.

i love the underdog but they do not often come up big. i can’t think of an underdog who often came up big except rocky (not marciano).

i like roy jones and hopkins, just like with trinidad and hopkins whoever wins i am going to cheer for the winner and feel bad for the loser. normally i will pick roy jones to, but you know how you can get soft if you dont get enough tough fights (happens to marital art teachers all the times). i know roy jones has a lot of heart to, do you remember how he spanked lights out toney? man, but my confidence is wondering because its been a long time that he didnt get a good challenge.

sometimes experience will give you more than skill can. roy has lots of fights, but he doesnt have the experiences of tough fighters like hopkins did.

anyway, i like to choose the fights by who i think will be better on the street. roy looks he will have girls phone numbers in his pockets, hopkins is the kind who will carry a brass knuckles.

Hopkins would get demolished if he fought Tito again. Tito underestimated him. Thats all. If they were to fight again, Tito would win. But Hopkins is a wuss and won’t fight again. He knows it was a fluke. So now he wants Jones. Only Hopkins is saying Jones is a wuss if Jones dosen’t drop weight for the fight. What? He wants Jones, but because’s Hopkins is not willing to make the weight, he calls Jones the wuss?If he wants Jones so bad he would make the weight for that fight. Yeah, great hall of famer. A lil punk is all Hopkins is.

Besides Jones has gotten a lot better since there last fight. And is fighting at a weight he is more comfortable in.

It was just the year of the underdog last year.

Jones -vs- Hopkins

This would be one of those fights that I would not want to bet on. Both fighters are elusive, fast and have the ability to knock their opponents out. I think it would come down to who wants it more although in my mind I still think Jones would be the victor.

As far as Tito and Hopkins, there was no fluke. And as they always say Tito comes to a fight prepared. Tito did not have what it takes to beat Bernard, and I doubt if he will anytime in the near future.

The last thing Tito should think about is fighting Jones. He would be out classed, out boxed and out of contention for a title fight.

Although I am from Philadelphia just as Hopkins, and I always root for the home team, this is one of those rear occassion I think it is best to bet on the visiting team.

I would see Roy Jones Jr. winning a close but very exciting fight.

Peace

Je Lei Sifu

i see jones knocking hopkins right-the-fu(k out.
when jones wants to kick your a$$, he is the most dangerous fighter out.
it was griffin who gave roy the biggest trouble of his fight career. griffin was trained eddie futch, hands down the greatest trainer of all time. what did jones do in the rematch to griffin, after he was disqualified in the first bout? jones sincerely wanted to prove that griffin was fluffer-nutter and he knocked him up, down, leftways, and the other 5 angles in 2 rounds (or 1?). griffin was never the same and it’s because he never knew how much jones is head and shoulders above the skill he puts out in regular fights. no one truly can test roy, except hopkins will come close. but he’s gonna get knocked.

I will be a good fight, but I still think Jones will beat him a lot easier than many of you think. Assuming Hopkins moves up in weight.

As for Tito. I don’t think he came prepared. After he beat William Joppy, Tito acted as if he would dominate this weight class like he did the others. He knew Hopkins was going to be tougher than Joppy, but I still think he underestimated him. If he had won, he’d of moved up in weight to take on Jones. It seemed to me he was looking pass Hopkins.Being undefeated also might have been a problem. Fixating to much on the record and how he’s racking them up, now at least he can get back to boxing. By the looks of the Hopkins fight, that was NOT a prepared Tito. I also think he would give Jones a tough match. Tougher than Hopkins. The Hopkins/Trinidad fight may not be a fluke, but I still say that was not Tito at his best.I’m not a Tito fan, just a Hopkins hater. It doesn’t matter. Jones would woop on both of them.

(1) Hopkins will beat Tito any day of the week. I highly doubt
Tito will fight him again. Did you think Tito’s power would seriously hurt him? Sheet Antwun Echols can punch over a bus and he couldn’t hurt Bernard.
I think Bernard took a big bite out of Tito much the way Hagler took a huge bite out of Hearns, Hearns was never the same after that fight, same thing with Vargas. Tito took a huge bite out of him.
Tito won’t be the same fighter again and will steer well clear of Bernard.
A fluke? If I remember Kuntaw and I called the win for Hopkins in the “other related” arts forum. I made about $600 on that fight.
Fluke. Shows how much you know about boxing.

(2) Hopkins has been chasing Jones for a rematch for years, so has James Toney. Jones has been doing the ducking kid.
Money? Bernard is the undisputed Middleweight Champion, he deserves half the gate. Period. Bernard has the balls to risk the whole “Hall of Fame” thing for another crack at the most dangerous fighter in the world (Jones) in the twighlight of his career. You gotta give Bernard props for that. He walks his talk.

(3)Bernard can’t retain the little speed he has if he jumps to super-middleweight. He knows that. Unfortunately coming down to straight middle will only speed Jones up.

(3) Wuss? I’d like to see you say it too his face. At least Bernard isn’t wasting his talent fighting part time cops, shot journeyman , has-beens and never was’s. OOOOH Jones beat up two name fighters in the last half dozen years Virgil Hill and Vinny Paz. How old and shot are those two clowns?

(4) You keep insisting that Roy is holding things up. Again, Toney, Hopkins and Darius have been chasing Jones for years. Roy doesn’t want a hard fight.

(5) When Roy knocks out Bernard I’ll believe it, If Bernard knocks out Roy then you will.

Here’s another little tip for you, if and when Tyson fight’s Ray Mercer, take Mercer with the odds. Maybe you’ll learn something and make some money.

Peace.

Tito

I don’t Tito would stand a chance against Roy, especially if he fights the way he fought Hopkins. IMHO, Tito should have rocked Hopkins. Tito was definitly not prepared going into that fight. He mindset was off. When have you ever seen Tito walk into a fight showboating and dancing…NEVER! Until he fought Hopkins. Not to mention that Tito’s corner svcked the day of that fight.

None the less I don’t take anything away from Hopkins. He fought his fight and made Tito look bad, but one has to remember that Tito is human. Sh!t, I don’t know of too many fighters now and days moving up two or three weight classes and fighting champs straight off the bat.

Take care,

buby

i was a trindad fan until he gave excuses how come he lost to hopkins. it reminds me of a joke i got from steve hernandez my own boxing trainer.

“why did i lost the fight” (top ten list)

  1. who the HELL put women on the judges panel?
  2. never got over my cold from last year
  3. my ex-trainer screwed me over
  4. it just wasn’t my night
  5. i was robbed
  6. hometown decision
  7. he hit me in the nuts
  8. waddaya mean? i got up!
  9. Don King, man, Don King
  10. i was robbed

hopkins will beat trinindad anyday. thats why hes not trying to get the rematch now. even roy jones said after the fight that tito should move on, he will never beat him. it was a style thing not toughness. just like oscar could did it, he didnt have the power. but i am not saying tito cant go on and beat 99% of the guys out there.

“just like oscar could did it, he didnt have the power.” - Exactly, don’t you think he would’ve learned from fighting oscar. It was nothing new to him…except the power that hopkins has of course.LOL

BAI HE

Roy Jones has been tested, “Honey Boy” Louise DeValle floored Jones with a clean left cross. Jones reacted by winning 11 of the 12 rounds in there fight. Then there was defensive specialist Montel Grifith who was ahead on the score card (or at least even) until he got fouled. Jones reacted by knocking his ass out in the rematch. Jones has beaten everybody who’s been put against him including Bernard. Why should he give any of them a rematch on their terms. He’s the Champion, he’s the best pound for pound and he has the most to LOSE.

If Bernard wins this, he’s a god in the boxing world and can demand any purse for his fights. If Jones wins his critics will say that he beat a guy 15 lbs lighter for the second time. Jones deserves most of the money because he has the most to LOSE.

“60-40 I KICK YOUR A$$”
Roy Jones during the interview.

when i was talking about oscar de la hoya, i meant he (oscar) didnt have the power to beat tito. he did learn, so he stays away more, and has a better defense. but when you been doing something one way for a long time, its not a good idea to change real fast. maybe over three or four fights. but he could not adjust to a stronger fighter fast enough for hopkins and it wont be there for jones.

if trinidads father is smart, he will keep tito in the division for at least a year and then test his power against the best in the division, which i thing he can do it, and if he did, well then move up. but his style against hopkins was not effective, and he needs more experience against fighters like him before he goes to the #1 fighter in boxing.

Interestingly, I heard somewhere that Roy has quite a collection of martial arts films and has a friend who’s a kickboxer that he’s worked out with. The guy said Roy would make a fine kickboxer if he chose but of course is the consummate boxer he is.

I have the higherst regard for both Hopkins and Jones. While I personally can picture Roy winning the fight, you just never know in boxing. For example, everyone was expecting Naseem Hamed to beat Marco Antonio Barrera, and last week Shane Mosley was beaten handily by Vernon Forrest, who everyone thought Mosley would beat.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say Roy’s opponents have been bums. Eric Harding is one of the best fighters in the weight class and fought Jones a year ago, probably Roy’s toughest opponent. It’s not that they’re necessarily bums, it’s that Roy’s level is so much higher than most of them. Gonzalez, James Toney, Montel Williams, Telesco are all good fighters he’s beaten, to name a few.

Besides Hopkins, I’d also like to see Jones fight Michelchevski(sp?), maybe they can fight outside of Europe, in neutral territory, like in Canada?

Jim

how come nobody told me there was a boxing thread???

I wouldn’t say it was a matter of power. Most people say it was Hopkins power that KTFO of Trinidad. I disagree. It was Hopkins the boxer punishing and systematically breaking down Trinidad over 12 rounds that lead to the KO. DLH can do it as well, he just isn’t the same boxer as Hopkins.

I thought it was kinda funny at the end of the RJJ fight, RJJ was talking smack about who the hell has Hopkins fought other than Trinidad? And all I was thinking was RJJ, you haven’t fought a matchup of that calliber in over 5 years!!!

All I gotta say is all the people who are going on about how RJJ is going to smoke Hopkins, I have a feeling you were the same people going on about how Trinidad was going to KO Hopkins and talking about him fighting RJJ. Trinidad has beaten some of the best names in boxing, and for him to get his a$$ handed to him by Hopkins should wake a lot of people up. I sure did.

SHOUT OUT TO BAI HE AND BUBY!

BUBY MY MAN, I WAS AT MSG TO SEE MOSELY FORREST!!!
OH BABY WAS IT SWEEEET!!
YOU GUYS SHOULD COME OVER TO SECONDSOUT.COM!!

I’m not saying RJJ is gonna smoke Hopkins, just that he’s gonna beat him.

Yes, I admit that I picked Trinidad to beat Hopkins, but so did a lot of people. I stand by my “RJJ will beat Hopkins if they fight” prediction.

(1) If Roy drops weight he will gain speed. That I agree with you. But he will also lose power. And if you knew ANYTHING about boxing you would agree with that.

(2) Roy has already beat Hopkins before. Broke two hands during the fight, and STILL went on to win. Thus it’s Hopkins who is challenging the champ. In order to gain respect and be considered a true champ, he has to beat Roy on Roy’s terms.

(3) Who the he!l keeps insisting that Roy’s holding things up? I said he’s a great boxer and prolly my fav. And? Hopkins is a great boxer too. Does that mean I keep insisting he’s holding things up?

(4) Wuss. Yup I said it. No I’m sorry, he’s a freakin fountain of courage asking a champ who has already beat him before to fight on his terms.I don’t know, to me that kinda sounds like he really dosen’t want to fight. If I REALLY wanted to fight someone, I would do whatever it takes so that it can happen. You know what? I prolly would tell him that to his FACE. I’m just that crazy ( or stupid ) to do so. I’ve said stupider things to ppl holding guns, why would I be afraid of him? Because he can beat me down? It’s not like I’ve never been beaten down before.

(5) If Hopkins knocks Roy out, then yes I will believe it. If Roy knocks Hopkins out, I could care less if you believe it or not. I don’t. I’m not going to come running back here on the board, post your status, how many times you’ve posted, where your located at,when you registered, and quote you, then rub it in your face. Honestly it dosen’t matter to me. Sometimes you pick the winner, sometimes you don’t. WOOPTY FREAKIN DOO!

And yes I do know something about boxing. So you like to pick the underdogs? WOW!So you like to bet, and go against the odds.WOW! Good for you. I’ll be putting my money on Tyson instead of Mercer thank you very much. ( assuming it ever happens )

PEACE!

Another thing

It’s not like these fighters are done for. De la Hoya,Vargas,Mosely,Trinidad. Just because they lost and looked bad in doing so dosen’t mean they are washed up. So they have a ONE in the loss colom ( De la Hoya a TWO ) when was the last time you saw a great retire undefeated? Rocky Marciano? Even Hopkins and Jones both have a ONE in the loss colom.Boxers are ppl too, they make a mistake and learn from it.

Marco Antonio Barrera was no an upset. I’ve been following him for a while, and I knew he was going to beat Prince Naseem.

And yes I was going for Trinidad, and he lost.OMG! At least I had no money riding on that.

One thing for sure is that Roy Jones has a better interview than Hopkins. Did any of you catch that, he went crazy!!! biting his hand and screaming, it was hilarious.
