Places to visit in China

I’m planning a family vacation in China this summer. What Kung-fu places, Shaolin temples, citys should I visit? Do the shaolin temples have things to see on a daily schedule , or only if you arrange something in advance? I am already planning to visit the popular tourist places Great wall, Forbidden city, summer palace etc. Can anyone share what places they thought were worth visting or web sites with good places to visit?

Thanks,
Ed

Temple of Heaven park (Tian Tan), south of Tienamen Square. Early mornings are a good time to see large qi gong classes, taiji classes & other martial arts being practiced. Or go to Coal Mountain Park (Jing Shan) north of the Forbidden City for the same. Your hotel should have somebody at the front desk that speaks English & can write down "Take me to… " on a card for you. From there, grab a taxi & hold on!!! Be sure you’ve got a hotel card with you to give to the taxi driver to get you back.

Thanks, Sean.

Anyone been to the Shaolin temples? Which ones are worth visiting and what is there to see there?

Ed

shaolin

yes the temple has many things to see, they have daily kung fu shows, a movie theatre, many shops to buy weapons, uniforms etc.

China tourism

China is a big place - maybe you should give us a better sense of where you are going. There’s a lot in Beijing, but it’s not that centralized, nor is it set up for tourists.

I know we are going to Beijing, Xian and Hong Kong, the rest of the trip we have not planned yet. I'm going with my wife and 2 sons who are not diehard Kung Fu fans as I am. What cities are the best shaolin temples in. Are there any good web sites describing other peoples visits. Also my wife speaks chinese so that should help.
