Im going to China! (The Second Thread)

A last attempt at a “real” summer trip is now going through the works, and it looks like China (and maybe Tokyo, too) will be possible. Last time I went it was very guided, and I didnt really get to choose where to visit; this time I am able to plan so its more free form.

I want to re-visit the Shaolin temple, because I was sick when I went. There were lots of monks about in the actual temple-area, and some of my friends actually got to train/drink tea with them in some back room. I just walked around sniffling :stuck_out_tongue:

Where else should I visit? I need to give my agent some names of places I would be interested in. I’m looking for more martial-arts oriented locations, and maybe some out of the way spots “of interest” some of you guys know of.

i always recommend people check out lijiang in the yunnan province. its a really neat place. the ancient city is like taking a step back in time. unesco protects it so they cant build or destroy stuff there. its worth the trip. plus the weather is like spring time all year and the coffee there is some of the best i have ever had.

if you dont mind taing train 10-12 hours south, visit hangzhou in the zhijiang province. its beautiful. stay at the hotel on the 10th or 11th floor at ar-ching-da-sha.

How about Wudang Shan near Wuhan? If your going to Shaolin, it might be interesting to check out Wudang Shan as well. Wuhan is quite hot at this time of year.

Learning Taichi Kongfu with a master Mr. Zhang

Mr. Zhang will come to the hotel to take the client to a park to learn Taichi, two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. Please include VIP seats at the Legends of Kung Fu Show.

Then the students of the school will present us a wonderful martial arts performance with over 10 different programs.
Afterwards the members of the tour will have chance to learn Taiji or other Martial arts with the masters. By the end, the principal of the school will present a gift to the group members.

Today’s highlight is a visit to the Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum, home to more than 6,000 life-size army funerary statues excavated from the tomb of the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty. After lunch, visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum, renowned for its collection of Han and Tang dynasty antiquities. In the evening, enjoy a special dumpling dinner and cultural show recreating the music, costumes and dance of the Tang Dynasty.

When you’re in Xi’an see if the guide will take you to a Yon-ro-pou-mo restaurant. There used to be a great one just outside the wall at the Peace Gate.

And don’t buy any recreations of the terra-cotta warriors, its supposed to be bad luck.

lol have fun in beijing in august. it is so hot and humid that time of the year its actually hard to breathe. i went at the end of july and it was pretty bad. did you check to see if your hotel has a western toilet? small detail but for some ppl a very important one. but yeah man, have fun there. if you get a chance you should check out a restaurant in beijing called “quan ju de” it is the best beijing duck you will ever have. and you probably should go bc when will you have the opportunity to eat beijing duck in beijing again? i think when i went 4 of us ate there for 50 USD. so thats pretty reasonable and they give you a whole duck. just don’t eat the feet. the webbing makes them too chewy to enjoy. at least that was my opinion.

last piece of advice i can offer is if you decide to travel around whil you are in china get plane tickets through elong.com its like travelocity for china. we got really good prices through that website.

This is actually my second trip to China.

I bought recreations when I first visited the warriors :eek::eek:

I also had duck in beijing. It was good, but my girlfriend loves ducks, so I felt guilty. :frowning:
