Kung fu is about power and speed

which is more important

are you fast enough?

are you powerful enough?

how do you develop your power and speed?

comments?

at the end of the clip, the teacher said wow very fast heng kuai

but not enough bu gou kuai?

It is not about speed. Very small and slow movements can be extremely disruptive.

I don’t savvy with the OP. :stuck_out_tongue:

martial arts should develop both and not one to the detriment of the other.

whole machine, not just a couple of it’s parts.

so mountain dew gives you speed?

and pepsi gives you power?

in the first clip, you only see the teacher’s right hand moving up a bit

what we did not see is the part that his right hand was holding the can close to his mouth and he drank the whole can—

wow shadowless–

  1. to reach the goals

we need to know what goals we are trying to reach first.

  1. so the questions would be

what would be power enough

and fast enough for what you do?

  1. and how do we practice to get there?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LX95daYgmdA

from the first clip,

there are 2 things to be done.

  1. avoid the hitting

  2. hit back

the time frame or speed would be to do both before the opponent finishing hitting you.

in practice, we simply move our palms toward the side and flip them downward

if we just pull our elbows backward, there is no time to counter attack

so we like to travel the shortest distance between 1 and 2.

in short, we have to finish move 1, 2, — while the opponent is still doing move 1.

power issue

  1. at first we need to practice a balance of posture

  2. balance of power distribution

we hit a focused point, when we land that, we should have a balance posture and distribution of power

–

we want to strike the soft spots

it has to be focused or consolidated.

comment away whatever your thoughts about speed and power

  1. breathing exercise

  2. relaxation, and stretching

  3. gradual hard hitting

these are the questions you would ask about a professed kung fu academy

and not what forms you have—

without (balanced) speed and power

we all be dancing.

If I’m going to send you to the mat, I would rather accomplish this with a slight tap to your noggen rather than use New York City kilowatts. If that is dancing, I’m a dancer.

how do you blow the candle out?

with my nasty morning qi

Kung fu is about power. BRAIN power!

And Lucas has plenty of it…

You may only look at this from a striker point of view.

Kung fu is not only about power and speed. Kung Fu is also about ā€œfind the right key to open the right lockā€. You try to solve problem with minimum effort and not by your brute force.

For example, your power and speed will not be able to help you to counter a ā€œleg liftā€ throw. That ā€œkeyā€ is different from other keys that you used to solve other problems.

this +1

(meaningless stuff down here to make it 10 characters yawn)

97 1/2 percent

I’d say that speed and power constitute 97 1/2 percent of it though. But speed without power is useless and power without speed is useless.
