high kicks in the ring

I looked up kyuk too ki after reading the description and apparently it’s some korean hybrid style combining boxing, muay thai and tkd

And this is why I am not overly concerned by TKD fighting.

If the person had simply had ANY guard this wouldn’t have happened.

Breifly hijacking this thread… Sorry!

But I didn’t want to post a second thread about this.

And it is (sort of) on topic…

Sabaki Challenge thread on the correct forum

That’s just one fight. This guy has no problem keeping his hands up and he gets knocked out with the same kick:

and before it’s said, sure, there isn’t much punching, but it’s a tae kwon do comeptition. No one expects to see kicks in a boxing match, or punches in a jiujitsu tournament, so this form of competition deserves the same courtesy.

Sorry I can’t view youtube from China. It’s not that the PRC banned youtube. Youtube banned the PRC.

From my experience the majority of TKD tournaments I have seen (and I have been to a few) the competitors have had difficulty keeping their hands up.

Well yeah, but there are reasons that the hands are low. One is because it’s a kicking competition, and most of the kicks are targeted to the body because it best demontstrates the shocking force needed to score. Another is because they believe their kicks fly faster if their hands are down and relaxed. And sometimes it’s just to draw a headkick to counter with an axe kick or a jump spinning back kick. Like I said this kind of thing is very specific to the format. Comparable to how fighters don’t have their hands in a boxing guard at Judo tournaments.

Sucks that You Tube doesn’t work for you. I uploaded it to my webspace so maybe you can get it that way. Here ya go:
