Zhengzhou tourney

The 1st World Traditional Wushu Championship October 16-20, 2004 in Zhengzhou. Anyone on the forum planning on going?Money is real tight for me this year so it doesn’t look good (unless I can sell my old HD chopper).

This is the first year for traditional styles so I would expect a big Mantis showing.

Thats an EASY choice…

Keep the HD!

There will always be another tournament, even WuShu…

Well, it seems to me that there is a trend towards traditional wushu (kung fu) and getting away from modern wushu. The traditional community has pretty much rejected modern wushu so it’s currently bieng marginalized. If you don’t support the movement back to traditional arts then modern wushu will take center stage again.

Am I wrong?

BTW, I can always get another Harley.

HLL – I don’t think you are wrong my comment was a wise-crack.

I have held disdain for WuShu and paid little attention to it for several years. This is because what I last saw of it, years ago, seemed an absurd parody of traditional MA.

If there are efforts being made to move WuShu back to traditional arts then I support that effort and thank you for enlightening me on the matter.

Still, TOO BAD about the Harley. Nothing like the open road, a full tank of gas and a Harley to let loose on…

 UM.

What’s even worst…

I believe Shang_kids’s outline of the situation in China. I recently got a movie on VCD. It is “Xanda” scripted by Tsui Hark. I darn near broke my TV and trash my DVD machine! What a piece of gabbage and a load of crap about San Shou or Xanda (the sport). It’s almost like a propaganda of Government run program only it is a bit more subtle. I was like “WTF is this horse crap?” The effort to assasinate traditional Kung Fu, or Wushu in their term, was so in your face! Tsui Hark used to be a great visionary, but now I think he’s either getting senil or selling out. It could be that he’s just trying to be “patriotic” but that is at the expense of the true treasure of the Chinese people. It is like the FCKING Cultural Revolution again only this is with the movie industy. He had the coach of the Xanda team almost like the demi god (the way Sifus were in the old movies). If he agrees to teach you on the condition that you are worthy with martial spirit/“wude”, he will turn the brick (TCMA) into gold. The main character who is the Wushu guy get beaten so badly that he couldn’t even figure out what hits him!? Just FCKING stupid! Cheap shots and low blows like this is just sick. Anyway, sorry about the rant. I am just sick and tired of the everyone going on about the mighty kickboxing with throws at the expense of traditional Kung Fu. Can you imagine a visionary like Tsui Hark would do a thing like that what about common folks?

Hi Robert,

yes I saw a trailer of “Xanda” and I felt very the same like you!

The film is rubbish and when thats the way modern china sees WuShu … oh my god. Eventually then they better go for basketball or soccer …

S.H.Kid: I agree, the problem is to get the people looking at the things behind the moves! Modern Wushu is a “catching the eye”. Traditional WuShu is kind of unspectacular unless it comes to show it´s “what behind the moves”.
So I also think we must use every chance to show the people that traditional WuShu has offer a lot more than modern!
