Watching those people laugh about killing the other day made me realise how much we are like the terrorists. Also by taking joy in killing Muslims we are only fuleing their cause and reenforcing what Bin Lauden wants his followers to believe. Action agaist them is nessacary to prevent future attacks but we shouldn’t enjoy mass murder, is that what being an american is about?
I’m with KL and SD on this one. Louis IV hasn’t said enough to tell if I agree with him. Here’s a good editorial that pretty closely reflects my views. Although I’m not positive we’re fighting this war the right way at present. Sure, Bin-Laden is in Afghanistan, but the people who commited the acts themselves had been in the US for years? Better intelligence (starting with some cia agents who speak arabic, for God’s sake!) would be a better approach. I imagine it’s in the cards, though it isn’t as sexy on TV as bombing raids.
It isn’t a matter of targeting Muslims and enjoying mass murder. That is a false statement, and if this were what it was about then it would indeed be reprehensible. However, what it is about is the fact that we have been attacked, the Taliban will not cooperate with our demands and in so doing, have become our enemy. You may believe the Taliban propoganda (read as:lie) machine when they say we are targeting civilians, but I don’t. If it was as simple as wanting to destroy a country because we like it, we would have gone nuclear on Iraq and many other Arab nations not friendly to us a long time ago.

Good article, I agree that a “war” against the terrorists is needed for self defense. Yet at the same time people are rushing to kill the enemy and screaming for what they call “justice” which I would just call revenge. I am not a pacifist by far but I think we need to get a little smarter and not help fuel the fire. Also I think the “humor” of killing mass numbers of people is at best distasteful. I don’t listen to propaganda on both sides. Bush says they whant to kill us because they hate freedom loving people… does that sound like he’s telling the truth to you?
“Are you suggesting that the glorification of violence is both good and proper?”
If it’s well executed at the proper parties, in this case terrorists vermin, yes.
Violence is a natural part of life, hunting is violent, harvesting is violent, volcanos are violent, it’s something that just has to be accepted.
“Americans don’t have the courage to come here,” Mullah Mohammed Omar, leader of the Taliban who right about now is getting jiggy with his first of 70 virgins.
“Are you guys ready? Let’s roll.†Last words of Todd Beamer heard over his mobile line right before rushing a hijacker.
If it wasn’t because they hate and/or are jealous of our country’s richness and freedoms, what then led to this? Yes, I will believe our President before I will believe the insane rantings of a man who has “daddy issues” but not so much so that he didn’t accept the millions daddy left him. Rather than building a better tower than the WTC and proving that there is greatness in their country like a sane competitor would do, they destroy ours. And now, Bin Laden uses the plight of the Palestinians as his crutch…he has never cared about Palestine and still doesn’t. Bin Laden only cares about becoming a power in his country that doesn’t want him. His own family disowns him.
So again, if it isn’t because they hate us, then why? I’d really like to know.
