I was having fun sparring this weekend, and a few more NHB types are showing up with my crew. I really enjoy sparring these guys because:
A. Because they try really hard - they train to fight. I usually only find this kind of attitude with Shuai Chiao or Xing Yi or SPM nutcases (no offence to the twenty dozen or so other excellent CMA groups out there - I’m just trying to make a point.)
and
B. If they end up taking me to the ground, I learn a lot. Sometimes I win, sometimes they win. Either way it’s fun.
I really have to say that the AVERAGE player (not the great ones) in free fighting (san shou and NHB) have really improved from my hey day.
I wish i could but the ones from the place i know (less than 5 minutes from here) are *******s, have very bad attitude, no respect. So no sparring with them.
I do quite a lot. (Actually I could me considered a MMA but I don’t use that designation.) There are alot of places here that don’t mind cross training, actually it is encouraged. So I get to do more than my fair share of crossing fists with pple.
I used to a short few months back quite a bit, now I am on a little dry run, I found it to be very educational for when I was involved.
As long as the people are their to learn and grow from each other and not the ego that they have built on the backs of their systems history then how could one lose.
It is not about style as it is about blood, sweat, tears and of course pain.
To many martial artists worry about what the other guy is doing, instead of working on their own preservation skills.
Been a while for me, hoping to get back with them soon. Did ya here that Joe subbed some guy at the GM with an arm triangle? I think that’s the first time I’ve heard of someone actually winning with a tech I showed them. LOL @ me.
I do. It’s great fun. The guys I’ve spent time with are mainly grapplers who train for MMA - and I haven’t met a better bunch of people. They are very open minded and very complimentary when I ‘score’ on them. I find it to be a great workout too - probably because I’m doing stuff I never had to do before. I’d recommend it to anyone.
I roll with BJJ practitioners once a week. It has improved my stammina and control when under pressure. We usually don’t use punches etc. but I get that during my regular training.
