WHF Black Tiger Intersecting Translation

Friends,
Here is my translation of the WHF Black Tiger Criss-Cross set.
The English translation of each caption is followed by the Mandarin (pinyin) and Cantonese pronunciations. You will notice that I chose very literal translations of each word rather than following some of the more common interpretations of the words. For example, I translated the word, diao, as “wicked” rather than “hook”. “Wicked/Perverse” is the literal dictionary definition. “Hook” is an interpretation based on the hand gesture’s appearance.
Comments and/or corrections are always appreciated!

My reference material consisted of: A Pocket Dictionary of Cantonese, Hong Kong University Press and the Concise English-Chinese Chinese-English Dictionary, Oxford University Press.

Caption #17 is a very rough translation. Perhaps someone else has a better translation. The technique is an arm lock that attacks the elbow.
Captions #30 & 32 have the phrase gen shou (M)/gan sao (C). It is a strike with the back of the mantis hook hand. How does your school translate this? Gen/Gan according to my dictionaries can mean, “follow” or “heel of foot”.

Just curious - what teacher/s came out of Macau (or resided there) that taught this? Overall I think it would make things much clearer to just refer to the family lineage line rather than refering to a country, or SAR, or something like that. Saying Macau TL, or HK TL, or China TL, or European TL, or American TL or Canadian TL just confuses me.

Thanks and cheers,
BBK

BBK,
I will have to check with Mike on who taught the form this way in Macau. However, I do know that Won Hon Fun took NPM to Macau in 1932 under the direction of Lo Guang Yu.

Thanks. Who under WHF eventually passed this on from Macau? Thanks again!

I am taking a private session with Mike tomorrow to get some more indepth training in this form. So, I will try to get answers to your questions at that time.

Richard A. Tolson

Bungbukuen,
Thank you for your patience!
After learning the final drills and applications today, Mike and I discussed the origins and transmission of this version of the form. He said this form came down to us through the Chu Chun Yee (sp?) line.
