What makes a martial art complete

Some times I here peeps saying my art is a complete art because it has this or that. Or your art is not complete because it lacks this. So my question is what is a complete martial art?

A truly complete art will teach combat in all ranges. This includes Kicking, close-quarter striking/trapping, grappling, and the ground.

Most stand-up arts do not feature groundfighting, but will have Kicks, strikes, blocks/defenses, throws, and some joint locks.

There is nothing wrong with training in an “incomplete” style, but it is best to someday fill in the gaps by training in a style that emphasizes whatever range your chosen art lacks.

When it’s 8 martial arts taught as one.

No wait.

That’s complete B@llSh!t… sorry…

Lol!!!

Be well…

so sorry, cash only.

a complete martial art

There is no such thing. and it shouldnt be approached or explained in that manner. “The most comprehensive” or “a complete system” or “the best of the best”. this is all marketing and money making ploys to get you drawn in to whatever rhetoric they are spouting at you.

Look for schools that have 1. a legitamate and traceable background with no holes or fantasy characters. 2. humble and respectable teachers 3. look at the students and see what kind of shape they are in(if they look like they couldnt work their way out of a wet paper bag, chances are the instruction isnt providing anything practical.) 3. avoid the brutalizers and people so hell bent on only wanting to fight and kick a$$.

                                                                                    Peace,TWS

I think the term complete implies done or finished…and we all know that that can never happen.

to me, complete means that the style has at least and understanding and training in place for all aspects of fighting.

will it have all the answers, no. but it will at least create in its practitioner a basic level of comfort in most situations. stand up, clinch, ground, weapons (firearms included)

your not really going to find any “complete” styles though. you have to complete yourself, a style will never do that for you.

the best any style can do is drill as many areas as it can to get you to understand the different variations of combat. and then drill the hell out of what they use for thier material.

no one has all the answers. or there would be only one style.

4 elements of unarmed combat:

shuai: throwing
na: locking
ti: strike with legs
da: strike with arms

nuclear weapons

this is the top style.

Agree. I don’t think any art can be complete becuase things change and focus gets shifted.

combine this with hammer, or boot style. that way you can finish off all the
c0ckroaches.

I agree for the most part..

…the problem is that it is very difficult to be at a 100% in all ranges of combat… energy is dispersed over a large area and is concentrated in a small one

SD did a number on you ??

the truly complete martial art offers it all

  1. Special Winning Attitute Teams

  2. Black Belt clubs

  3. Ninja Turtle birthday parties

and of course… secret weasal fighting techniques

When if can do right, no can defend, complete your teraining will be.

When you can snatch the pebble from my hand, you will know that your art is complete…

I think part of any students pursuit of martial excellence includes the pursuit of the concept of complete.

A complete experience on a daily basis, a complete portfolio of fighting techniques, a complete body, mind and soul coordination, a complete lifetime profile?

I like the pebble bit better…

hahaha

…lmmfao!!

old man…

you stole my thunder. I’m going to go sulk.

your Nuke Fu is very powerful…
