never cared for GL, thought the choreography was awful. I always liked the venom gang, especially ,Chiang Sheng.
Bruce Lee -Kato was the first CMA I 'd ever seen. I was 11 yrs old, and that was it!
I HAD to learn GUNG-FU!!!
When I first saw the TV commercial for Chinese Connection, I literally screamed!
My Mom ran into the den,“What’s wrong??!!”
I said, “BRUCE LEE IS MAKING MOVIES!!!” (I honestly thought I was like the only one who knew who he was!)
Enter the Dragon was orgasmic for me. The opening scene was like a religious experience.
(I had the book, “Secrets of Chinese Karate,” by Ed Parker-the first book to talk about the Shaolin Temple, the wooden man hall, the brands of the Tiger and Dragon, waiting outside the gate for three days, etc. When ths show KungFu came out-I had another experience, again, thinking I was the only one who knew about the Shaolin Temple…ok, so I was a dopey kid..)
Now, Donnie Yen is da man.
But I’m not afraid to admit that I think Jet Li is the all time great with movies like: “Bodyguard from Beijing”, “Once upon a time in China”, “Unleashed”, “Hero”, “Kiss of the Dragon”, “High Risk”, “The Tai Chi Master”, “Fist of Legend”, “The Legend of the Swordsman”, “New Legend of Shaolin”, and the granddaddy of all that is cool in the martial arts movie world…
“Shaolin Temple”
Favorite Actor: Sammo Hung (cuz a fat man shouldnt’ be able to move like that) and now Jackie Chan. Both of them for their athleticism and comedic abilities.
i loved how in kill zone he did improving fight scenes and brazilian jujitsu. it’s nice to see someone doing something new in kung fu movies and raising the bar even today.
iron monkey was awsome, Ip man was great too.
I’m glad i’m not the only one who really likes Donnie Yen. I’m actually starting to prefer him to Jet Li these days.
Favorite KF(and Karate) flicks:
Dragon Tiger Gate - Just really liked the cinematography and the action.
Iron Monkey - Awesome.
Fist of Legend - Awesome awesome.
Fighter in the Wind - Some great action sequences. Plus, it’s about Mas Oyama(loosely).
Black Belt(Kuro Obi) - Fist Karate movie i’ve seen that showed a no-nonsense approach to combat. Also, I liked the fact that they were genuinely good karateka. The final fight sequence was terrible, though.
If we’re also including non-Chinese MA or MA-type movies, then my favorite actor, by a long shot, is Shintaro Katsu, in his Zatoichi series. IMO, no other MA actor has ever ‘become the role’ like him.
