He’s a big guy. It doesn’t look like his butt is on the bench tho. He gets pretty excited afterward. I would, too.

So that’s a bench suit, is it? Impressive lift, ass up or not.
That’s a warm-up weight for me. Pansy.
mmmm so that’s like, a big muscular and fat guy moving a big heavy weight for a few inches, like 3 or 4 down and 3 or 4 up … like yeah … wow, how impressive, wish I was him and could achieve something like that … amazing …

Wall,
That’s how powerlifters bench. You limit the ROM to increase the poundages you can lift. Can you unrack 900lbs off a bench? Could you even unrack 900 lbs on your shoulders for a squat? Maybe your total best squat, dl, bench press combined is equal to 900 lbs?
This guy has trained his a$$ off in order to do this. Are you that shallow that you’d criticize his accomplishment?
Wierd. Whatever floats your boat, though. ![]()
Ford, I was just being a little facetious
…hell, take the guy in the guiness book that eat the most worms or something like that: must have taken a heap of practice, doesn’t mean I’m going to admire his achievement though ![]()
Believe me, I do know what work it must take, given that with over 12 years of lifting (admittedly just to complement my MAs and not for the sake of lifting alone) my bench is only 260 (for 6 reps, never done less so don’t know the max).
So yes, my total 3 lifts will definitely be less than his 900 … yet somehow I admire his …great… achievement slightly more than the worms guy on the Guiness book ![]()

Ford, the guy looks obese, even if he could bench press 900 lbs, he could have used that time to get his over sized, blubbery fat butt on a tread mill and loose some of that fat. So yes, despite the fact he benched 900 lbs, which is impressive, it was a waste of time because of the time he could of spent getting into better shape.
Same can be said with almost any activity. Olympic lifters in the unlimitted weight class look obese as well, but some are in pretty good shape. Rulan Gardner (Olympic Greco-Roman Gold Medalist), who beat Alexander Karelin looked obese as well yet he can tear it up on a wrestling mat.
I respect any althetic accomplishment that takes years of dedication and sacrafice to reach, no matter how silly it may seem. Maybe once I reach the top in any athletic field then I’ll feel I have the right to ridicule other elite athlete’s accomplishments. I feel bad for you guys.

Ford, ok, good point. However, who has the greater chance of having heart disease? A man who weighs 300 lbs with 50% body fat, or a man who weighs 200 lbs with 8% body fat? Who will get more ladies to turn and look at him with a pleasureable smile when he is walking down a beach shirtless? The fat man, or the man with the ripping 6 pack so cut you could wash your clothes on him?
I am not saying good for him for lifting 900 lbs, I couldn’t lift anything even remotely close to that. But what purpose does it serve other than for him to jump around and say “I might weigh 300 lbs and be obese, but I can bench 900 lbs! I’ll die by the age of 40 from a heart attack!”
Sorry, but to choose between looking like him and being able to lift 900 lbs one time, or having a ripped body of muscle even if I couldn’t bench press my own body weight, I’d choose the latter because it just looks better over all, and would get more people to notice you and see that you are fit.
Ford…“the right to ridicule other elite athlete’s …”
It appears that you might not know the difference between not admiring something, being facetious, or outright ridiculing it.
Noone ridiculed his achievement.
I’m simply not in awe of it, and in fact believe that the goal pursued has led to a result to me unappealing and on the whole unimpressive despite the undoubtedly amazing physical feat.
You know, it’s called a personal OPINION
, something we should all try to have ![]()
And Iron… “0WN3D!!!” ? LOL, Read the above ![]()

Phil,
Different strokes for different folks. Lot’s of people would love to be a NFL player even though a majority of them end up partially dibalitated due to their playing career. I think tennis is as ghey a sport as you can play, yet I can still see the beauty and inherent athleticism in it’s top players. This guy has reached tha absolute top of his chosen athletic field. I respect that. I in no-way would want to switch places with him, but I can see the accomplishment in being the absolute best in world at what you do.
Wall,
An opinion is one thing. For instance, I don’t like Justin Timberlake and think his music is crap. That being said, I respect the guy’s talent as an entertainer. I’m not overly impressed with runners, but I see the dedication it takes to be an olympic sprinter and how amazing the speed they run at is.
I wouldn’t want to be this guy benching either. I like who I am. I respect the hell out of the achievement though for all the factors that would go into something like that. Not being able to see a distinction between an opinion about a person or event and respecting what goes into competing in that event or field at an elite level is sad. Sorry.
Ford,
Please, could you show me where I riduculed/disrispected/insulted what goes into competing in that event or field at an elite level, to use your words.
I thought I just expressed a facetious personal opinion about my lack of admiration for the achievement displayed, despite a healthy dose of personal knowledge and respect for how much work it must take to accomplish it.
Anyway, enough semantics. Perhaps it’s just my poor english that lead to these comments. ![]()
Funny though how by calling me “…shallow…” and “…sad…” it seems that the only person in this whole thread displaying obvious disrispect fr anyone it’s not me versus the powerlifter, but rather you towards me ![]()
Perhaps you should practice what you preach? ![]()

Jesus. Someone manages an athletic achievement that few people on the planet can equal, and the response is “Eh, not that impressive” and “Oh, he’s fat.”
If someone posted a video of some chinese master going through a perfect form on the main board, and the responses were “Eh, not that impressive.” and “Wow, he’s thin and frail looking. Maybe he should lift some weights instead of spending all that time perfecting form” the responders would get ripped up and down and flamed to a crisp.
“Funny though how by calling me “…shallow…” and “…sad…” it seems that the only person in this whole thread displaying obvious disrispect fr anyone it’s not me versus the powerlifter, but rather you towards me”
Nope. I was giving my opinion about anyone who can’t seperate their thoughts about a certain person/lifetsyle and the respect you should have about the accomplishments of others. You just happen to be the one poo-poo’ing an amazing feat of strength, so it would appear aimed at you.
I appologize if it seemed as if I was attacking you as a person as I can definately see how it could be construed that way. I am just truly amazed at how somebody couldn’t be impressed with something that only 1 human being on the planet could do in spite of thousands trying.
I do practice what I preach. Like I said before, I don’t like or really concern myself with a lot people or sports, but I respect those in the arena putting their blood, sweat, and tears into what they are doing and will respect the product of all that work.
I’m impressed with most things that I am not able to do. Whether it be benching 900 lbs, performing a graceful kung fu form, doing a gymnastics floor routine, running a marathon, painting a beautiful portrait, etc. I think there is beauty in every act of human self expression from the gym to the running track to the artist’s studio. I guess I’m just shallow like that. Go figure.
You keep missing it Ford
…“You just happen to be the one poo-poo’ing an amazing feat of strength…” I’m poo-poo’ing because I don’t admire it??
I think maybe it’s your english that needs checking
I said now numerous times (please refer to past posts) that I respect the difficulty of the achievement, but I’m not impressed by it nor admire it.
That’s just a personal opinion which has nothing to do with poo poo or other bodily functions aimed at our overachieving powerlifting friend in the video ![]()
Anyhow, I think too many keystrokes have been spent on silly semantics…
On to the next topic ![]()
W
“I’m not impressed”
Right. It’s easy not to be impressed by a feat of human strength that only 1 person in the entire world can do even though there are tens of thousands currently competing in the same sport and have been much more than that throughout the sport’s history.
How can you not be impressed by something like that? Nevermind the sport or the person, but the mere fact that this person did what countless others have been trying to do for decades. That’s impressive on it’s own.
PS. Lifting suits are stupid. ![]()
Father Dog, I am simply stating my opinion. As I already said, all the more better to him for being able to lift 900 lbs one time, that is something I could never come remotely close to achieving. I just think that it is a useless waste, it’s an ego boaster that only a select few can share with him without him boasting his ego. You can’t exactly go swimming and go to a lady shirtless and say “Hey I can bench press 900 lbs.” without her thinking “Gee this guy has an ego problem” versus say having that ripped muscular body and going swimming and don’t have to say anything cause the girl already knows you got muscle.
My dad has not worked out in 15 years. Maybe more. Save for the occasional walk around the block, the walking he does at work, and the softball team he plays on for church, he doesn’t exercise. The man could still bench press probably 50+ lbs what I could bench press, but if I went to a pool and both of us took our shirts off (providing I was tanned and he was tanned) I guarantee more women would turn and look at my more toned body than his body.
If I could bench press 900 lbs, then sure it would be awesome. But rather than take the time to bench press 900 lbs, and not have any extra health benefits from it, and the only way I can show off that I bench 900 lbs is through ego boasting, I’d rather take the toned body.
