I just read an article about the big fight card last night and it appeared no one was happy.
To start with why do they keep dragging out a 47 year old guy to fight on their pay-per-view card? Too much like pro wrestling here.
Also, according to the article, the main event looked like two guys getting together in the parking lot of a bar! It was awful.
Apparently, during the match the owner of the UFC went to Silva’s corner to complain… Complain about what? That he wasn’t putting on a good enough show? Once again too much like professional wrestling.
I wonder if they take bets in Vegas on these fights. I know I would never bet on a UFC fight in a 100 years!
I would agree that Silva was being, perhaps, overly respectful of L’s abilities. However, the fall-down-and-pray technique of Leites was smothering the action. A let down.
I think Silva has basically surpassed anyone he’s faced in terms of striking and strategy. Who goes through 5 rounds toying with someone and takes no damage? The guy did some crazy stuff that really shocked me…in fact it looked very Kung Fu to me.:eek:
I think Chuck may be done…fun to watch but it sucks to see the guy go out like that.
The Wiman fight was the best one IMO.

I saw the Shogun destruction technique.
Was having problems getting a steady stream from any of the regular sites, so I just gave up. Getting in at 1:30 into the Shogun-Liddell fight was luck.

Wladimir Klitchko, unless hes forced into a good fight, is as of late in the business of boring fights too. The basic strategy, don’t take any chances, do just enough to win the fight.
Its honestly not that amazing that someone in great shape who was taller with a much longer reach, could keep someone at bay for 5 rounds.
He wasn’t toying with him, if he was, he’d of been able to end it whenever he wanted. The Crowd booing all throughout the fight would’ve given him reason enough.
He didn’t want to take any chances, that was the issue. He didn’t take any chances, and he made sure to shut the guy down at anything he tried to do.
But he didn’t show any ability to finish the fight. He didn’t want to go to the ground, he didn’t want to stand and trade. He wanted to evade and kickbox on the outside.
Not a bad strategy if your only concern is about winning.
But its not only unfair to the fans who paid good money, its damaging to the sport as an entertainment medium. Anderson Silva single-handedly just lowered what everyone makes for fighting on the undercard of his next fights.

We hold athletes to the standards of other athletes of that sport, and not ourselves. Because most of us can’t do even a fourth of what even the suckiest professional athlete can do.
Any fighter, in any discipline, that can fight elite competition and do whatever they please and take minimal punishment…deserves my highest respect…boring indeed, but awesome none the less from the standpoint of martial arts.

I don’t get paid to be a professional fighter. Anderson Silva couldn’t sell half as well as me…But if I made a sucky sales pitch, I wouldn’t mind if Silva voiced his opinion.

Well every athlete deserves a lot of respect for accomplishing making it to the higher levels of the professionals. That’s why they get paid so much. Harming the sport when you have the ability to do more but don’t because you want to play it safe, is an incredibly selfish thing to do. Every fight like this in boxing for instance, loses fans, loses money, and everyone who doesn’t have a super big name like Delahoya, suffers from it. That sucks. Playing it safe hurts the sport and the athletes.
