As Maoshan stated, it was handled and resolved, and needless to say, Maoshan, Black Taoist and myself can say we are proud to understand and follow the old ways and not have to live vicariously by trying to stir up crap on a BBS
That’s cool. And consider both parties have good reps and are respectful toward each other.
I’d be lying if I said I’m not interested to see baqua vs lama between some good fighters.
Cultural question, several of you have mentioned that they handled it in the traditional manner which means in private. Is there an accepted set of rules in CMA where some fights are settled in private and others in public? If so what are they?
I was always under the impression that some guy showed up in town and challenged the local master… then they’d duke it out in the streets… Maybe I just watch too many kung fu movies…
One reason I have become more associated with San Shou and less with traditional martial arts is because “kung fu people” have become such a set of pathetic wannabe’s. F-i-n A, you stay glued to your screens hoping to get info on something that doesn’t concern you, perhaps because you know you will never fight yourself and this is your only entertainment?
Such a sad lot the traditional people have become, evidenced last night by sad fake “master” David Lin of NYC… but perhaps I’ll leave that story for another time…
First, for those who don’t know, “David Lin” of New York is NOT the famous David Lin who was the #1 fighting student of Chang Tung Sheng. But NY’s David Lin tried to claim he was until David Lin, the real one in Atlanta, said basicly he’d come up and crush his tiny head if he didn’t stop. NY’s “David Lin” claims all kind of lineages he doesn’t hold, he’s a huge freaking FRAUD.
That wouldn’t bother me, except that he is a punk who sent his students to put his flyers on my door. In tradition, that is a CHALLENGE. So we called him up and he punk’d. He actually had the nerve to say we should “respect me because I am a famous Chinese master”. I told the infamous Chinese fraud that if he did something that stupid again, I’d show up at his school next time. His big counter response was to curse at me.

like 3 people very casually wanted to know the outcome of an extensively advertised/ bragged about fight. No one was glued to anything.
It seems to be that if the two opponents are of good repute then everything is dealt with in a polite and civil way.
If one party has been called out as a fraud, then I suppose if that said party were the loser they would subsequently be exposed to the public.
Since the Ross camp and the Toaist camp have such good reps, maybe the fight occured over differences of opinion, differences which were subsequently resolved during the confrontation presumably.
It really isn’t our concern , but at the same time I expect some of the build up took place publicly. So while the public isn’t entitled to know anything, the said public should at the very least be expected to be interested in the outcome.
peace.
" But NY’s David Lin tried to claim he was until David Lin, the real one in Atlanta, said basicly he’d come up and crush his tiny head if he didn’t stop"
That would have been quite the interesting event. Master Lin is only like 5’6" but he scares the hell out of me…
no offense to you Ross but I don’t buy the martial ethics excuse to not talking about “closed door challenges”. Martial artists like to fight and we like to learn about fighting. Part of that curiosity extends to learning how other people fight. I don’t think it’s out of line to want to know how a particular fight went. Not all of us are interested in the politics of the fight because some of us are smart enough to know alot of how the fight goes has to do with the man.
As a matter of fact I think the whole idea that martial artist will not divulge the details of challenge matches is more about protecting their fragile egos then anything else. Alot of decisive winners don’t mind discussing these matches while almost every time, losers and those who couldnt’ dominate their opponetn like they thought they could, decline to discuss the details, and my belief is it is out of the fear of having to admit that they may be “wrong” in some way. Challenge matches are about ego and if it doesn’t come out the way a challenger felt it should, ie his winning the match hands down, why hurt his ego or public image by talking about it.

conduct” seems to put you in an even more embarrassing spot.
It makes even me cringe.
If its TCMA conduct why were the challenges and arguments plyed to the public like on a stage?
The original argument was played out for the audience of KFO for the sake of pride was it
not? And then they were not given a cover-up not a follow-up. So naturally they are curious,
they were the audience. It’s as if the actors closed the play at ACT V.
Maybe there wasn’t a fight, no blood huh? That could be embarrassing. [/QUOTE] I’m weighing in on the side of both of these guys. Both lkfmdc and blacktaoist have talked shit about others, as well as about each other. They made a huge deal about their challenge and then hid behind “tradition”. Methinks one or both parties was quite embarrassed by the events that took place. Either that or they both pussied out and didn’t really fight.
well, i’m pretty sure i seen pictures of you dave and i seen black taoist on video beating up Fabian over at cyberkwoon when they met in the park in NYC…
you don’t appear to be the same person…
but who knows? I’m the alleged conspiracy theorist.
David:
Being respectful and anassuming are one thing.
However, talking trash about other people’s figthing ability and then hiding behind “tradition” when it is time for your own skills to be demonstrated is the coward’s way.
