Stun guns are for girls…there is only one true way to test its effectiveness: Shoot yourself in the nuts and if its still ineffective because of your iron crotch training…try again while standing in 6 inches of water in the bathtub.
Seriously who gives someone a stun gun for Xmas? Isn’t that an oxymoron? Why would you need one? If you carried one why are you training in martial arts? I suppose you should just carry pepper spray too.
And to answer your question, its mostly pretty highly effective, our security guys use them in the ER for patients who are extremely violent and on PCP or some other unknown combination of street drugs. I have heard of cases where they have to tase them twice…there are people who can be resistant to it. Ask the cops. That being said it usually has to be used at close range and someone who is relatively stationary. You get one or two shots…
Wasn’t there a story about someone tasing a fan at football game over not standing for the national anthem?

I assume whoever gave me those Christmas gifts assumed I live in a violent part of US, and also my TCMA skill suck.
I also had pepper spray as my Christmas present before. The one that can shot 15 to 20 feet.
So how many times have you used either of those on the street? I can certainly see using these items if you owned a jewelry store or convenience/liquor store…maybe you do. I can tell you from personal experience that pepper spray is totally worthless in a Zombie Apocalypse scenario. Not sure if the stun gun works on zombies…a worthy endeavor to find out.
Last time I was in the Glacier National Park on the trail near Many Glaciers, a grizzly bear passed by me no more that 20 feet away. I had my Colt 45 in my right hand and my powerful pepper spray on my left hand.
I used my bulletproof vest as my chest protection during spar. It works pretty good. Only wear a couple of times when I needed to settle down some small matters with people.

As someone who lived in Tahoe and had bears come on my porch or seeing them on trails, I wouldn’t recommend using the stun gun on the Grizzly, but that’s just me. Pepper spray as last resort, if it’s a mother with cubs forget it. Better off waving your arms standing fully upright and firing the 45 in the air.
I do like the idea of sparring with the bear while wearing the vest. Good way to test your Chin Na skills.
So wait, let me get this straight: u had a score to settle with a zombie bear who had once pepper sprayed u in Tahoe, so you used the metal insert of your bullet proof vest as a mirror so that u cud c the bear but not get turned to stone by its gaze, and then u Tasered it in the testicles while it was standing in 6" of water;

It helps with conducting electricity…if you’re gonna use a stun gun/taser on someone wearing a bullet proof vest, you want them to have a metal plate on the front. Plus its very good against grizzly bear attacks to the torso.
Titanium plate: Never feel insecure in your platemail again.
Protection from what? Polymer-based and ceramic plates work much better.
The one that I have has a metal plate that I can put in and take out. I have never test it with my own firearm. I have always believed that extra metal plate can give me more protection.

I just found a new spear head that I can attach on my hiking stick in case grizzly bear attack. The spear head is round shape. It weight about 1 and 1/2 lb. Very solid.
Ceramic is the norm, and even those have variations. Some can stop an AK, some can stop AP rounds. Polymer is for the $$ folks, but it can be much thinner and lighter. Metal… never heard of it, and it wouldn’t seem to make much sense…at all.
And you can’t just take it out back and shoot it to see if it works. When you shoot a plate, it needs to be replaced. It won’t work twice.
I know dragon scale got into a big debate with the gov’t, because they failed our ballistics tests when heat was factored in. They swear by their products, and I think it was more of a $$ issue than one of quality.
I’m calling BS on the metal plates, though. Sorry, man… doesn’t even begin to pass the sniff test.
For those of you who are interested, here’s some very informative data on modern armor… should answer the questions better than I can.
