Streetfights on video

Here’s a link to some video clips of “real streetfights” – funny how they aren’t to the death.

Well if the russian mugging clip is still on there where the lady gets head stamped repeatedly im led to believe she died. Thats one we show to the class now and again. Was this the same link either myself or Ernie posted up here a couple of months ago

I’d say the guy in the “don’t fight in a russian club” clip died. I don’t think anyone could survive that beating.

Warning… it’s brutally graphic and you probably will wish you hadn’t seen it. I wish I hadn’t.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

On the contrary im glad i have seen it and the others. People can stay wrapped in their little Chi Sau bubble safe in the knowledge that all the time they’re arguing over over the angle of Taan Sau-lineage etc and worry about the suits slippers bullsh#t and politics that they block their mind from reality of the urban environment. Indeed all the new guys we get come through the door who may have not had the mispleasure to have had seven colours kicked out of him are advised to check this kind of footage out. I think some of the nastier stuff has been removed which is a shame

I’m with you, Kevin. So many people have been “removed” from fighting that they have all kinds of false impressions of what fighting actually involves.

Thanks Terence, nice to know there are some like minded people out there. I just find it ammusing how threads like this never really seem to get many replies compared to the amount of views it gets

Kev,

I would suggest that the reason the comments are low, is that there is nothing provocative about the topic. What kind of comments are you expecting?
Real fights are brutal and ugly, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Matrix,

Not at all, what would be nice is honesty whether someone has been the guy on the ground being served up talking about experiences etc etc. I’ve had the misfortune to be stabbed, glassed, to be the guy on the floor being kicked and to have kicked and hurt people when they’re down to netralise a threat to myself.

Let me tell you and anyone who reads this fighting isnt nice, theres no ettiquette every single one of us can be put down with potentially fatal consequences. You can of course reply you know this already but it seems to me theres a lot of people more concerned with their interpretations of WC hypothesising this that and the other without training for this reality. At a recent self protection seminar i was screaming in one guys face that i was gonna tear him a new a$$ and just with verbal and he fell to pieces a quivering wreck call that results??

Kev

Kev,
Yes, we already know this…
As for experiences, mine have been quite tame in comparison, and are few and far between.

Nice point on the psychological aspects (verbal assault) of training.

The ‘Don’t fight in a Russian Club’ clip was actually pretty scary. I’ve seen a lot of fights but that one’s now burned into my brain. Where were they? Was it some kind of fight club thing? Did all the guys in the background have their shirts off, almost like this was some sort of training or something weird.

Anyways, watching that clip shows you how people can become animals. No regard for life. This goes for the person giving the beating and the room full of guys watching.

What you can take away from that video: don’t assume that someone will come to help you and if you get yourself into a fight, fight like your life depends on it. At least enough to get the he!! outta there.

The “don’t fight in Russian club” video is actuallly from a french movie. It’s not real!! Don’t trip fellas. It is disturbing though I have to admit, but again, it’s from a movie.

Peace

Train, while anything is possible, I would be surprised if that’s from a movie. If it is, then kudos to the SFX makeup folks, 'cause that’s as real as it gets.

There are two reasons that I doubt that clip is from a movie: one, IIRC there are no cuts in that shot. I don’t want to watch it again to check, but I was pretty sure there were no cuts. If that’s the case, then some very slick choreography off camera would have to have been pulled off, and even then, the effects would rival the best ever.

The second reason is there are several strikes that are on camera, and the realism is quite alarming.

Having said that, there are elements that raise an eyebrow. For example, why is the event being videotaped (or filmed) and why is the killer seemingly unfazed by the camera? Also, there are elements that are exactly what one would want to choreograph in order to “sell” the realism if it is from a movie. In particular I’m thinking of the victim’s shaking hand as he is dying.

I don’t know, I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I do know a thing or two about movies since I am a professional cinematographer and camera operator working in Hollywood.

If it is from a movie, it fooled me.

Trust me!!! It’s a movie. The title is called “Irréversible”. Go check it out. You should be able to rent it in most movie rental places. I warn you though. It’s very graphic!!! It’s a one time rental!!!

Peace

Well, that makes me feel better, 'cause I was literally disturbed by that clip. I am amazed at how realistic that looked. Very skilled work by those filmmakers. I doubt I want to watch the rest of the movie based on that clip. I’ll take your word for it.

Russian fight

Here is a link about the movie http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:Q_ZQ203fsE4J:www.wandwvideo.com/catalog/catalog.cgi/VIDEO/8130DVD+Russian+Bar+Extinguisher+Fight+Video&hl=en

I can’t believe anyone thought that “russian club” clip was real ! Did you guys not notice its in wide screen ? a lack of blood ? Good effects though, not the best I have seen though

Psst… I’ll let you in on a little secret…

A lot of cheap consumer video cameras available these days can shoot in 16:9 aspect ratio (wide screen).

That clip has been compressed to the point where it is difficult to ascertain whether it was shot on 35mm or MiniDV originally.

I also watched it the first time after watching several other real clips on that site, so I suppose I was predisposed to believe it’s authenticity.

Finally, the long, apparent single shot without cuts was part of the believability too. Most films would’ve had several cuts in a sequence like that. I watched it again, and there actually may be a cleverly hidden cut in there, but I’m not going to analyze it to find out for certain.

For what it’s worth, I work on movies and TV shows for a living, and I fell for it. I wouldn’t say that I’m generally very gullable either, having grown up in NYC.

I just watched the russian pub fight video. Here are my thoughts.

It’s very disturbing but I believe it’s fake.

The broken arm part wasn’t believable for me.
There was no blood.
No arms up for protection even while still moving.
Expression on the face didn’t change.

The guy was running from the other guy one second, the next second he’s got him on the ground breaking his arm and then it looks like he decides to rob the guy. Then he is so focused on robing the guy that he doesn’t see the guy with the fire extinguisher right next to him. It even looks like the fire extinguisher guy said something before he hit him and he still didn’t even turn his head.

Oh and the crowd stays back so the guy with the video camera can get it all on tape and not block his view at all.

Alright,
I’m gullable
I’ve seen some of the other clips on there and they were real so I just ass-umed it was real. Oh well, it’s good to know that was a movie, I’ve never seen one that was that violent. Unless Kill Bill vol. 1 & 2 counts

Check out Sifu Jose Grados videos. He explains the applications in detail. Defenses against sucker punches, tackles and ground fighting. On his latest videos he deals with defense against the grappler using wingchun. He has first hand experiance using his wingchun in street brawls in the Bronx. So he is not just a theorist. He has actually used his wingchun against resisting, larger and multiple opponents dozens of times. He knows how to translate wingchun into actual fighting and he does a good job of explaining it in the videos. Check out the site www.sifugrados.com.
