Stats...help!

im recording my stats in a notebook for further progress as i start my training program. i would like to know how u get the information on what body type you are, and how do u calculate bodyfat percentage? any help would be much appreciated…thank you…

I was interested in this a couple weeks ago and dug around for it, but Im thinking that you will probably have to just drop the 150$ on a good scale if you really want to know…

calipers work well (no, not brake calipers). just get yourself a hottie to help you out.

Calculating bodyfat with calipers (in millimeters):

  1. Get your weight in pounds

  2. Take caliper measurements in the following places:
    -Pectoral/Chest
    -Right Tricep
    -Right Bicep
    -Suprailiac (1" above hip bone)
    -Lower Back
    -Subscapular (back)
    -Umbilicus (by belly button)
    -Right Calve
    -Right Thigh

*you will need to measure in millimeters and you will also need some help for some of the measurements like tricep and back.

  1. Add up all the above measurements and plug them into this formula:

(sum of measurments/bodyweight) * 28/100 = bodyfat % for men

(sum of measurments/bodyweight) * 30/100 = bodyfat % for women

Those scales are grossly inaccurate.

i might just ask the traininer in my school to do it…save me some trouble…

but like body type…i mean by the scientific name of the different body types…i ferget what the names are…but how do u know which type u are? serious answers only please

Can you see your abs? Then your at 10% or below.

The scales are very inaccurate. Mine says I’m like 22%. lol. I don’t think so.

Hydrostatic weighing is the most accurate (and expensive) way.

here are my stats as of now:

Height: 5 ft. 5.25 in.
Weight: 130 lbs
Age: 15
Bodytype: (need this)
Bodyfat %: (need this)
Bench: (gonna get this)

i need the bodytype and bodyfat…and today ima bench to find out my max…but when i calculate the bench, should i get the weight by maxing out? or should i say the highest weight for the reps i use?

Depends. If you’ve been doing weights for a long while and you know what you’re doing, go for 1RM or 3RM. If not, be careful and don’t risk hurting yourself. Go for 5RM or so. But definitely don’t try for any max if you haven’t been doing any weights at all. Take it very easy for a month or two and go for your 5RM then. There is a formula out there - I got it off this board at one stage. I think it’s 0.033 x max weight x reps + max weight = 1RM. So, e.g. if I could do 248 lbs for 5 reps, I would get 0.033 x 248 x 5 + 248 = 288.92 for my 1RM. (I’d be very surprised if that’s my actual 1RM, but that’s the formula).

BTW, I don’t know enough about it, but you probably shouldn’t be doing heavy weights if you’re 15. You should wait until you stop growing or it might affect your bone development. Or is that all just a myth?

there is a machine made by a Japanese company Omron that measures your %bodyfat. you simply input your body parameters e.g height, weight, age then hold the machine in both hands and it tells you the answer in a few seconds.
It does this by sending an electrical current through your body. I think fat causes electrical resistance , so the more fat the more resistance and it measures this.
It is quite expensive however, but all you need to do is to go to a shop that sells them and ask to try one out. Go back every few weeks or so to see your progress.
I don’t know how accurate it is though.

Sticky,

They are very innacurate.
