AUSTRIA’S FINEST Spa Hotels & Resorts is a portfolio of 15 deluxe properties offering world-class spa facilities (alpine, thermal and medical spas) and the finest local organic cuisine in breathtaking countryside, lake and mountain-side settings. Average temperatures range between 20-27°C at this time of year – delightfully cooled by fresh alpine air - making Austria the perfect place for a summer or early autumn spa escape.

Therapists at AUSTRIA’S FINEST Spa Hotels & Resorts, each boasting a minimum of three years’ professional training, provide a unique range of treatments, many using local herbs and plants. These include the Stock Diamond (where Austrian mountain crystal is pulverised with cream to invigorate the skin),

an Alpine Hay Bath (hay is laid on the body, sealed in the form of a wrap and then heated, to stimulate the immune system) and Shaolin Monk Massage (rhythmic massage by Shaolin monks). The hotels’ treatment rooms and facilities are also world-class and many include private spa suites for two. Cosmetic surgery (minor and major enhancements) is offered onsite at the Alpenresort Schwarz – and what better place to recuperate than at a world-class spa?

First stop for professional sportspeople and fitness enthusiasts alike are the cryotherapy chambers at the AlpenMedHotel Lamm – sealed ice rooms that are used to successfully treat muscle inflammation and improve circulation. Stimulate the senses at the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol, where a bread bakery in one of the saunas cooks real loaves during every spa session, releasing delicious aromas. Or enjoy wonderful skin treatments, prepared from fresh herbs, at Ebner’s Waldhof - where a dedicated herb kitchen produces ingredients both for the hotel’s spa and its gourmet restaurant.

All of the hotels offer deluxe spa facilities, gourmet food and sumptuous relaxation areas as well as plenty of options for more active pursuits. Here are just a few of the options available:

· Go horizontal in Vorarlberg: Based in the beautiful village of Bezau in western Austria (fly to Zurich or Friedrichshafen), the Hotel Gams is situated close to Turner-prize winner Antony Gormley’s final installation of his famous cast-iron sculptures entitled ‘Horizon Field’ (August 2010 – April 2012) as well as the world-renowned Bregenz Festival (21 July – 22 August) on Lake Constance. Combine culture with indulgent spa treatments, such as Caribbean sea sand and fresh papaya facials and chocolate aromatherapy massages, or enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, rafting, caving and golf. Alternatively, borrow the hotel’s convertible car and go for a romantic spin through the stunning Voralberg countryside.

· The hills are alive: New to the collection in 2010 is Im Weissen Rössl in Salzburger Land (fly to Salzburg or Munich), a romantic lakeside hotel that’s perfect for couples and set amid scenery that provided the stunning backdrop to ‘The Sound of Music’. Take a dip in the unique heated lake or enjoy the view of Lake Wolfgang from an outdoor Jacuzzi. Ride by train to the tip of Schafbergspitze (1,730m) at sunset or enjoy a classic full-body massage for two.

· Eclectic eco-spa: The Biohotel Stanglwirt in the Tyrol (fly to Salzburg, Innsbruck & Munich), built entirely from Austrian wood and stone, is proud of its extensive eco-friendly credentials. Meals are created from produce grown on the hotel’s local farm and the spa offers an eclectic mix of treatments including Thalasso using local spring water and French seawater (to improve circulation), Vinoble treatments (an innovative approach that used grape seeds), and the profi-lift power massage - a type of yoga for the face.

Be kinda creepy asking a celibate bald guy for a happy ending wouldn’t it?

Hmmm,…

that doesn’t look comfortable at all…

Nice pic post, sanjuro_ronin

David, I guess they don’t have face cradles at Shaolin

Shaolin’s Penetration Reflexological Massage–in simple term, Shaolin Massage (Purple Bamboo Forest)
Merry 778-899-2637 or 604-345-5426

BC Certified Relaxation Massage, one thousand five hundred years of therapeutic history in China, originated from South Shaolin Temple (Which was burned down by Manchus-Qing dynasty). Merry had treated over 10,000 clients during 30 years in China. Most of them were national athletes and government officials.

The ancient Chinese secret of a longer healthier life. In 1644 AD, the Manchus came to power (Ch’ing Dynasty 1644 -1911 AD). Many of the officials from the previous M’ing dynasty sought refuge in the Shaolin temple and the Manchus destroyed the temple. Many of the officials from the previous M’ing dynasty sought refuge in the South Shaolin temple and the Manchus destroyed the temple. Only five masters escaped - those who went north taught the taller Northern/Mongolian people accustomed to a cold and rigorous climate, while those who went south taught the shorter Southern people accustomed to a warmer climate.

The character of the reflexology therapy of South School in short is called Shaolin Massage. It was originated from Shaolin Temple one thousand five hundred years ago. This traditional natural healing method was passed down from generations to 2-3 male students. Only selected male students was believed to have the strength and power to complete this complicated massage system. Among the only 5 students taught directly by the monk master, Merry was the only exception and she was his last student. One student is in Singapore and the rest of them are retired and residing in China. She was the captan of a women’s basketball team as well as she learned and practised KongFu in the military. Merry’s master was the 12th Grand Master of South School. Merry graduated from the school with distinctive honor and had created her own effective new style of acupressure massage. This advanced new style was approved by the Grand Master to start her own school.

The basic method and practice are to press acupoint (xuewei) with pennetrating vital energy (Qigong), combining with a complicated system of massage and stretching of muscle and tendons. The treatment of combination of penetrating acupoints and reflexological massage will eliminate pain, accelerating vital energy cycle and metabolism. This ancient massage includes neck, body, arms, legs and feet. In 2 hours, a master should be able to massage the accupressure points, relax tendons and muscles, joints, and lymptic system with Qi in a formula of technique from neck to toes. Shaolin Massage has over 30 sets of massaging technique on the pressure points and tendons, using different parts of the the hands. From touching a system of pressure points, a master should be able to know the type of physical problems in a person. From our knowledge, we are the only one with the complete set of South Shaolin massage in North America. Shaolin Massage is only available to government officials and VIPS in China and not yet opened to the public. This one thousand five hundred years old healing method is not simply massage, it also helps to push the spine back to its original healthy position, relieves pain and treats any old or new injury after a cyle of treatments.

Pulse diagnosis, working pressure points along the twelve meridians that trigger relaxation to clear Chi stagnation and also plucking the tendons that have been pinched from trauma Thai massage Similar to chiropractic technics, Shaolin Tendon Massage also adjusts the spine and skeleton with physical manipulation.

I don’t think these two massage styles are related.

I found this in Hong Kong at the Mandarin Oriental a few weeks ago when I was there. They also had a big layout in some of the magazines with a shaolin monk being tranquil and relaxing

Its all the rage…

Im a Shiatsu practitioner - I gotta get my Monks robes on when I am given treatments

If you are doing shiatsu, don’t mix your cultures.
Put on black zen monks robes instead of saffron chan monks robes.

Good one Blacktiger

Master Who? Master Hu! I’m always suspicious when they don’t give the full Chinese name of a master. It’s like saying Mr. Smith.

Meanwhile, here’s some more.

Chinese Kung Fu Shaolin Massage Wine

Chinese Kung Fu Shaolin Massage Wine Quantity in Basket:none

Price:$9.95

Shipping Weight: 0.90 pounds
6 available for immediate delivery

Quantity:

This well known Chinese Kung Fu Shaolin Massage Wine is widely used by practitioners in China. It’s for external use in massage to promote vascular health. Bottle of 5 oz. (148 cc)

Note that the label of the bottle does not actually say “Shaolin” or “Kung Fu”.

Lol!

My sifu does this. Any time I’ve been injured, he gets out his bottle of jow and massages the heck out of my ankle, knee, and shoulder injuries. Sometimes you want to scream and shoot up out of your seat…but in the end, the injury always heals faster ;). When I injured my shoulder and couldn’t raise my arm, he worked on it and pressed on something near my clavical and said “now lift”…and I could! After my ACL replacement surgery in Feb, Sifu Ly worked on my knee a couple times and greatly reduced the swelling. I had virtually no pain and my surgeon and therapists were all amazed when I was way ahead in my healing and strength at all my check-ups. They told me to keep doing what I was doing…I laughed and said it was due to tai chi and my sifu. I hope to get back into mantis training at the end of summer.

Before tournaments, or if I feel tight, I have a “go to” massage therapist who is excellent with thai massage and tui na techiques, plus her boyfriend is a TCM doc

Not sure what the big deal/difference/secret is. While jow formulas vary, I thought most of the old school sifus learned this side of TCM to treat injuries from training and to promote health.

tieda is a common practice amongst kung fu masters

TaichiMantis, just search our TCM forum for [I]dit da jow /I. Tieda literally means ‘fall hit’ and is used to refer to therapeutic methods used by martial artists.

It’s using the Shaolin name as a massage brand that makes this thread interesting. The example above is an amusing example. The label says “tianqi tiedajiu” - tianqi is ginseng. It has nothing to do with Shaolin kung fu. It’s the marketing.

Here’s a classic example of Shaolin commercialism. A lot of people criticize the institution of Shaolin for being overly commercial. And sure, there’s some validity to that. But in the case of these Shaolin Masseuse people, the institution makes no money from this. It’s the individuals who are marketing it who profit. No one from Shaolin sees one red cent (or red fen) from Chinese Kung Fu Shaolin Massage Wine. It’s only that retailer who cashes in on people who can’t read Chinese.

The Japanese stole the majority of the theory from the Chinese anyway LOL

Gene - on a serious note however and working in the health and relxation industry.

Some of the top spas round the world will be heading this way trying to cash in on the Shaolin name having in house masters etc or faux chinese dr’s - it was only a matter of time.

People love spending silly amounts of money at spa resorts and top hotels to have some master etc with questionable credentials give them the Sunset Shaolin Serenity Hot Stone Back To Bliss Day Package.

My tip is that there will be more of this type of thing popping up round the world.

Well, I don’t think they stole it. They did receive transmission. Can it be stolen? Wait… discussing zen always goes nowhere..nevermind. lol

Shaolin B&B

We’ve come along way since the daze of the wushuguan…hydrotherapy bath indeed. I can remember being at Shaolin with no water. Of course, you’ve all read about that by now, right?
