Pai Lum Tao Video Clips

I’ve met some of these guys before.

Thier VERY similar in strategies and applications with American Kenpo. One of thier instructors told me that they were sister styles - Ed Parker and Daniel Pai grew up together.

We had a guy at one school I went to years ago who came from Pai Lum. He was really tough, but his applications were not that sophisticated.

I also knew a guy that was a ‘second degree’ in Pai Lum. He was a really tough (a trend, I think) guy. He could fight pretty good too. But on retrospect his training methodology was fragmented. Later on I showed my Chu Gar sifu a tape of the guy. His comment was ‘That isn’t kung fu, but that is a very tough man.’

I tend to agree - it seems to be some kind of Hawaiin Kenpo / farmer kung fu mix. I’d say the latter part, just from observation is that they do not understand CMA methods of power generation, which for me defines CMA for what they are.

I don’t discount them completely, as they probably ARE better than most of the mcdojo’s out there. The things I like about the Kenpo groups -teaching awareness, preperation, etc, they do also. The instructors I met (except for the second degree guy who was a NUT) were great guys, dedicated to training, and open minded to fill in gaps in thier training.

I’d have to concur that the stuff on the clip was not Taiji. Not even close. But that could have been beginners doing a warm-up - maybe?

So - to summarize - I’d say it’s a Hawaiin style, just like American Kenpo.

I don’t understand why you are so pissed about me posting this. I didn’t say anything bad about these videos. I was just posting them for everyone to see. Sometimes you gotta post stuff that is something other than “What ever happened to Ralek?”. Maybe you have something else to be embarassed about…

I didint like the Tai Chi Form

I like just about everthing else though
the Tai chi form looked like just some people doing stationary tai chi movements with no intent for fighting.
I looked like a dance.
normally tai chi is made up of slow and sometimes fast shadow boxing that that look like just dance

Love the breaking though

You never know what you dont know.

Know that.

If your heart is in Pai Lum then you are studying a hard core low level chop seuy system that had a dash of this,a dash of that and put it
self off to be a high level TCMA with strong roots.

I’m sure you can KATN(kick arse take names) and bang your hands, arms and fists on the iron dummy.
This you will pay for in the long run.

And I’m not trying to slam your style but the concepts of Pai Lum are sub-standerd compaired to
high level CMA(I’ve fought the pai lum ppl,I was not impressed).

What puzzels me is that you live(NJ?) so close the real thing,I respect your drive and motivation,
try some other systems,IMHO with your raw talent
the skys the limit!

Man,I should check back more often

Iron Dummy is much different than wooden dummy. It has 7 arms to block and is much lower to the ground calling for a lower stance. But I not going to go into detail.
I do go much easier on wooden dummy

So,now what is Di-Jow for,(going easy)

I’ve seen and tried other systems Example Wing Chun IT is a GREAT style but I have said before I was looking for a more combat street fighting system like pai lum and yes Wing Chun does have more style and grace.
Pai lum does mix some kempo into it’s style a system I was looking for.
You will see more of this in the future (mixing)
take a look at san shou, the CMA way of real fighting and ring fighting.

As for the tai chi, I don’t take the pai lum tai chi.

In closing
This is something I do and I do it VERY well.
thank you.
and I still love all of yah.

I was wondering if you could tell me a little about it threw a messenger(icq, msn, aol, etc etc)the reason I ask is there is a Pai Lum school close to me and was wondering about it
Thanks

Pai Lum, Pai te Lung, Bai Lum, Bok Leen Pai ect

IF you don’t mind me intruding Pai is White one of the great draw back of written chinese is that there are many differnt spellings of the same word in this case the family name is White(pai)
the charrector is a lidded box with a non-connected dash in the center.
Don’t judge and intire system by a few clipps from a given school. in this case Gong Yuen Chuan-Fa. Grandmaster Daniel Kane Pai studied Kenp in the monistary that his Grandfather Po Fong Pai sent him to for 5 years of his youth. Upon return to Hawii Po Fong took to teaching him the family art of White Dragon Fist. The katana was an adition of Grandmaster Pai’s why he Liked it.
Sigu Glenn Wilson is Sifu Don’s cousin they both studied under Grandmaster in Florida. Sigung Wilson’s son is Sifu Richie Wilson.
As to the Tai Chi having Learned Short Form from Grandmaster there is a difference between His power laden style and the clip.
I hope that helps to clear some of the air and answer some ?s.
God Bless and Good Training.

Northern Mantis- the Hung Gar form using the calvary saber was not made up by Wing Lam. The form is called Ji Fei Dao and it was developed by Lam Sai Wing. Lam Sai Wing developed it because he thought that the people lacked the technical knowledge to defend against the western weapon.

Peace

I stand corrected.Thanks Illusion.
