NY Schools

A friend of mine lives in NYC and was thinking about checking out Alan Lee’s school. Anyone give me some insight on Mr. Lee or know anything about his school?

Alan Lee’s Wing Chun school is outstanding.

What about any of these schools:

My friend sent me links to schools that he is thinking about checking out. He wanted to know if I knew anything about them, but since I don’t I posted some links. What schools can you recommend outside of your own (which I suggested to him to check out).

there’s a ton of fake crap in NYC, sadly so…

I’d recommend Yee’s Hung Ga for traditional southern…

If he’s near brooklyn, get in touch with Lawclansman on the praying mantis board, 7 star mantis, late Chiu Leun lineage

I’d stay clear of all the shaolin temple crap

I would advise your friend to avoid Bo Law. It’s a tad expensive, and from my experience not good.

Yee’s is a good option.
So is Yip Wing Hong’s school (Lung Ying).
As is Pak Mei with Kwong Man Fong.
He could also check out Su Yu Chang’s school.

JP, Sifu Carl (Lawclansman) would be a good one to check out for sure.

So would Su Yu Chang.

holy crap…that site was a whole lot of nothing…with incredibly long load times…I want my 2 minutes back.

Lu Sifu started training at the age of 8. He lived in Hong Kong, in a Shaolin Temple. He was teaching by the age of 14 and has been doing so ever since. While in Hong Kong he was also a stunt man for the Hong Kong Cinema.

i’m not the perfect martial scholar by any means…but, were there any ‘Shaolin Temples’ in HK?

Yee’s Hung Gar in China Town is a great school.

I was referring to Alan Lee’s Wing Chun btw

A good traditional school. Go for the tongbei!

  • This is not “that shaolin temple crap”

not being a wiseass here, but are you implying Alan Lee’s school is somehow crap?

OK, having found this, I guess that is the generally held opinion. I’m surprised, but as a beginner I’ll at least assume some of it is true.

2 Alan Lee’s

One ALan Lee is a Wing Chun sifu, the other a Shaolin/Kung Fu teacher

thanx for the clarification, Sifu-C!
Yes, I was referring to Alan Lee, the Wing Chun Sifu.

Sifu Carl has taken some time off from teaching. When he does start again he will only be training a few of his advanced students privately. You can e-mail him to see if you can get some privates but if you want something longterm you may have to check elsewhere.
