I have mixed feelings about posting this as the turnout for this thing was very poor. Not sure why the turnout was so poor.
Anyway, had 5 matches total and won all of them.
I have only reviewed the tape on the last two matches and there were tons of mistakes on my part but I guess less than the other guy.
Got a couple of decent throws and screwed up a few as well.
Got punched pretty dang hard for a light contact match. Jaw/ear are still sore and the ear has a little fluid build up. This guy was a better striker than me but I was better throwing and on the ground.
All the competitors I met were very cool. Good overall experience.
As soon as I can get the vids downloaded from the camera I will post them on my website for everyone to make fun of.
Congratulations. I’m sure the turnout wasn’t poor enough to discount your success. Now maybe we’ll have time to get together. I know I’m not going to be able to talk you into coming to Johnson City for Master Mullins’ tournament!
as you can see the main goal of USJJ/JJIF is to become an Olympic sport. so it’s not a blood and guts venue. There were a few injuries over the weekend: one fractured shin bone, a few cracked ribs and one mean azz looking black eye.
Ap, I only have my last 2 matches against a Canadian guy on my camera. All the others are on someone else’s camera but I will try to get mine up by the end of this coming weekend.

Sounds cool. Looking forward to seeing da drop bear in action.
If there isn’t a grappling type of event then probably not.
If I decide to try and go to that training camp, and actually get on the team, I will probably not have time for squat till after all of that. [/B]
November 1 at Freedom Hall.
No grappling although the non-stop sparring allows non-joint lock takedowns if followed by a technique. Headgear is also required, but we will have extra there.
SB, thanks. I’m having problems with my damm camera…it’s not spooling the tape onto the head when I load the tape. It’s done this before but not as a constant. !@#$@!#
didn’t take many stills but here is one of the group.
I’m the thug on the right.
check the size of the dude kneeling on the front row…he’s 6’5, 275. He’s just started martial arts and once he gets some time in he’s going to be a handfull.
edit
btw, we all look grumpy cuz we had spent a late evening celebrating over in Niagara, Canada.
And she likes kung fu and computers?
Wow.
I gotta shake your hand for that one sometime Oso.
Sounds like shes got her head on straight. All the sexy broads around here are only good for 2 things… Being hot, and… hehehe…
so I took a look at the rules, and as far as striking is concerned, the rules seemed to leave alot of rules for interpretation. “no straight punches or kicks to the head” “no strikes intended to damage the opponent” etc. So how did things really play out?
I pulled 2 warnings for striking after I grabbed gi. that and what the ref’s don’t see, don’t count is always in account. One of the guys I fought kept jabbing and caught me with nice hard hook right after one of them and he drew the penalty for the jab but not the hook that certainly moved my head more than the proscribed ‘inch’. might have been a tactic on his part because the hook shook me for a bit. still beat him though.
I nailed a guy with a side kick just below the ribs pretty hard and intentionally to take his breath a bit but didn’t get called for excessive. He told me after the match that it worked.
JJIF and USJJF are trying really hard to get to the Olympics. I think that is why they are trying to not get an image of a blood and guts sort of thing.
It’s basically sport kumite & Judo combined. The stand up may be pretty light but once grip is made it’s a full on judo match. Saw some nice throws. If I remember correctly I managed a couple of respectable Osotogari’s, 1 Ipponseoinage, and I caught a front kick and stepped through to reap the standing leg whatever that is called.
havn’t seen that tape yet but my team mates said that we caught air. Technically I screwed up and fell into his guard. Luckily I was able to escape it for the hold down/pin.
A fantastic victory Big Bear! I`m happy for you and your Sensei, two quality people. Shihan Wilcox must be very proud! What do you think is next? Spain Looking forward to our conversations and viewing you in battle.
Osos better half is quite a gem. A lovely lady who is inspirational in both her Martial Arts world and her “art world”. These two individuals make a good team, are perfectionists and down-right good folk! Umm, she will hit you, no doubt.

Is Master Mullin`s tournament an annual gig? If so, I would like to bring a group next year, and give some support.
