I’m sure I’m not the only person who’s seen this Wong sifu from the U.K.
Anyone know his lineage or background?
Just curious.

I like him…he’s funny.
I like alot of his stuff, and I especially like his delivery-funny as ****!
I’m not sure exactly where he’s coming from-is he being funny, is he trying to reach a specific audience? Is he starting a cult?
In all honesty, I don’t think you have to use offensive language, or street language, to show how “street tough” Gung-Fu is. I much prefer the Scholar Warrior approach.
There are plenty of guys out there teaching who are pretty hardcore and are also refined in their presentation, which I believe shows TCMA in a better light.
btw-Randy Williams is also funny-“Fuk’em if he can’t take a jut!”
i heard he is supposed to be from the wsl lineage
Yo!
I like how he switches back and forth between broken English and a funny British accent.

That’s too funny

since HK was Brit owned, many HK people speak with “broken English-with an English accent”
I don’t know but he seems to do a lot of drills off of the continuous punch drill from what I have seen…

Correct!!! He has been a student of wsl since 1998.
He has also been trained by Hu Flung Dung and Po Kum Yung. I do believe he has taught your Teacher too…Sum Ting Wong.
he’s like a cross between a shaolin monk and a bulgarian soccer coach, lol
From what I understnad he is not hong kong Chinese but from Vietnam or somewhere like that.
Although his physical skills are very good his wing chun lineage is unknown to most including me. He probably learnt off a lower level teacher in uk or from someone in mainland China as I think he has went there to study taiji and the like.

I’ve only met him once, and he is a genuine ‘character’! Very intense and very, very powerful. I think his WCK originates from Vietnam, but he has always avoided telling people who taught him! That has no purpose (he says) and it hasn’t stopped him outselling practically everyones DVDs!
Good luck to the man as he obviously has money to spend and a message to promote ![]()
He’s a pretty sharp dresser…

Needless to say i traded the free DVD… actually for a jimmy page doco from a friend of a friend, man did i luck out on that one
LOL

Graham was making a joke. From Wiki (note the birth and death dates):
Wong Shun Leung (; 8 May 1935 – 28 January 1997)[a] was a Chinese martial artist from Hong Kong who studied wing chun kung fu under Yip Man ()[1] and is credited with training Bruce Lee.[2][3][4][5] Wong reportedly won at least 60, and perhaps over 100, street fights against martial artists of various styles.[3][6][7][8][9] Due to his reputation, he came to be known as ‘Gong Sau Wong’ ( or ‘King of Talking Hands’).[3][7][10][11][12] Wong recorded one instructional film entitled Wing Chun: The science of in-fighting.[13]
Thank F–k for that !
It was even more surprising Spencer mentioned his sales are huge… who’s buying that garbage ? i only got my hands on it because they were giving it away :o
I would like to see him take a kick from someone that is not his student.
what speicifically did some of you guys not like about his videos? and i mean actual martial stuff not lineage nonsense and what have you.
His application differs big time from the way i was taught for a start, but morover it breaks certain laws / ideas i personally have.
Body - hand unity, elbow position and behaviour and most important of all IMO the force he uses all seem to be the opposite to my Ving Tsun approach.
Two main things i had issue with were -
The timing he uses… i find unresonable in fighting. Action vs reaction.
The Range he works from… less conducive to contact fighting which is the VT beast IMO.
Ive not met him nor sparred with him to feel what he has but thats the main reasons im not a fan.
I recognise im lucky in the fact i found a teacher that is on the same level as i am in terms of mindset and approach so i found Wongs way of articulating ideas and theory very poor.
But each to his own, if he helps anyone improve skill however small or great, fine.
