When anyone talks about 8 fists, they are talking about the original Lion’s Roar system which was a collection of certain techniques developed by the founder. Rather quickly the system expanded. There are clearly more than 8 fists now but the exact number seems both random and dependent upon the particular tradition. Ng Yim Ming talked about 12 fists. Chan Tai San talked about 18 BASIC fist strikes, though actually a quick count of the strikes he taught generally to all is even more than that

these are considered our 18 basic fists

  1. gwa choih
  2. kahp choih
  3. pauu choih
  4. bin choih
  5. chyuhn choih
  6. gok choih
  7. so choih
  8. cham choih
  9. pek choih
  10. jong choih
  11. jit fu choih
  12. faan paau choih
  13. pak yik paau
  14. chyuhn sam choih
  15. jyuhn choih
  16. chaap choih
  17. laahng choih
  18. jyu geng choih

MUCH APPRECIATED

I wasn;t sure if you would be comfortable chatting about lions roar, most tibet stylists seem to be pretty close-knit.I’m checking my notes and contacts for the terms you wrote,so i wont have to bug you for what i already know,i was explained hopga in karate terminology,as my style is a hybrid KAJUKENBO/HOPGAR.
It’s my hopes as i establish my carreer in the next twenty years,to learn as much as i can within the chambers of LR’and all its derivatives, white crane bakhok etc…seems like a GREAT search,to establish myself and to help bring the tibetan arts out of the woodwork,i live in canada bc am currently looking into loans for college so it will be along time before i could possibly have the chance to fly out to ny,and affilliate myself with your curriculum,my greatest hope is through the other 3 lr stylists in these boards i have made friendships with,we can build on the differances in our similaritys…& tobe cut&dry,i hope we can build a chatfriendship as you having way more experiance in lr,if i could use you as a referance tool in my journey…

just a hello,once i get my notes together,compare known differances-etc.
hopefully we can build
