And dont worry, anything thats classifed as male (Apart from Jet Li) p!isses me off…sorry boys, say sumthin nice about Jet and I might change my mind;)
Tae Li;)
Jet Li has nice teeth.
I always say nice things about Jet. So there! ![]()
Still no release date on Hero that I can find. Grrrr.
Tae, don’t sweat Jackie and Chris Tucker-rock (Tucker totally stole Rock’s act if you ask me)…Jackie is a bit better known, and besides it was MTV! WHO CARES WHAT MTV THINKS? They’ll tell you Backdoor Boys and Blimpy Spears are the greatest thing ever. That should be the first clue.
Dead Kennedys said it long before I did…“MTV, GET OFF THE AIR!”
I thought the end fight in the one was better than in RH2 anyway…
hope your end of semester is going well Tae ![]()

48 PAGES!!
Hi Everyone!
This is my first post here, been lurking for a small while and was interested in the jet li thread… i didn’t realise it was 48 pages long!!!
So I’m afraid I’ve missed out the middle 40-odd pages and just had to post my congrats to all and Tae Li in particular for the longevity of this thread. May it’s life be long and prosperous ![]()
Hello and see you all around!
“Your sword is good, I admit.
But still, if you should lose it you’re finished.
But my arms, they always stay with me.”
(The One-Armed Boxer)
gee , thanx dude:D
And welcome to the forum, your always welcome back on this thread…hint hint…![]()
Tae Li;)
Thanks Tae Li!
What is your ethnicity by the way, Tae Li sounds kinda korean…
Anyway, don’t know if this was covered in the 40 pages that I had to skip, but do people like seeing kung fu set to rock music? Or techno? I can see the reasoning behind it, but for example the music at the end of The One is quite distracting for me, I don’t think you need upbeat loud thrashing music for a fight that is actually a very sophisticated (if age old) concept match.
How good is the signature tune used in the Once Upon a Time series? Yet it’s soft and rousing without being distracting.
Just my opinion…
I know Tae Li is a cool name but Im not asian Im afraid, Tae if for my martial art (taekwondo) and Li, well that should be oBvious even to an idiot, lol, NOT YOU!
Tae Li;)
kieofwoo: I agree with what you say. Sometimes the musical score in movies really distracts form the visual masterpiece that is MA choreography
The Wong Fei Hung tune (i ALWAYS forget the real name :D) is very powerful. Then again, most of the movies Jet and others have done recently have been more for a general Action audience. So i guess they will use music that is popular and that most people can relate to. This brings in viewers and also sales of the soundtrack… it’s all about the presidents ![]()
For example: on the Rush Hour soundtrack, there are things by the Wutang Clan. Jackie doesn’t like the profanity and general message in those kinda groups lyrics, as he’s seen a role model to many young kids (so wants to convey the right message). Yet they are still there…? Has to be popular culture. Anyway i like the Wu, so that was great for me! ![]()
Tae: if you’re not busy, check your PM. If you are then no worries ![]()

Jet Li IMHO hasn’t made a good movie since Fist of Legend.
Further proving that Jackie is the king of Martial Arts films ![]()
LOL Sorry i just felt like trollin’, but that doesn’t mean its not true ![]()
Jet’s movies have just been different to FOL and OUATIC… more modern. Bodyguard from Beijing rocked for example. ![]()
Not better or worse, just different
Mass audience appeal and all that now he seems to have ‘cult’ western status…

Leonidas…watch your back buddy, NOBODY makes a comment like that and gets away with it…NOBODY:cool:
Wait till ‘hero’ comes out, you may be impressed…
Tae Li;)
OUTIC music (theme) if I remember right is “The General’s Mandate”. Also, interesting fact about that film…listen to the soundtrack closely and you will catch 5 (count them, FIVE) different versions of General’s Mandate in the movie.
I thought the soundtrack to The One was pure excellence. I, for one, am getting a little tired of the whole “chinese martial art must have chinese music” idea. But also, many times the actors (such as Jackie in RH2) don’t have ANY say over what goes on the soundtrack. That’s usually the marketing and art departments. “WuTang Clan coming at ya…watch ya step, kid…ya best protect ya neck!” However, on the other vein, I am also already tired of the gross over-urbanization of kungfu films. Maybe someday, some smart guy or team of folks will figure out that right balance.
But anyway, music sets the mood. Have you ever tried watching a movie that has a bad soundtrack, or one that just doesn’t fit? It about as fun as pulling your own teeth with pliers doused in kerosine.
I’d really like to see Jet do an old school Kungfu movie with minimal/no wire work, you know more realistic. Where it focusus more on the Kungfu, and you can actualy tell what style is being used.
Theyve moved my Thread! Theyve moved my God****n thread!!!

OK, maybe not, but they moved my thread from the main forum:(, what did IIIIIIIIII do wrong?? fcuking blind.

I just watched “The One”.
That movie was so terribly acted that it was actually enjoyable. By the end of the movie, I was laughing so hard because it was so funny. The “I’m nobody’s b1tch” was as good as “I’ll be back” or “Go ahead, make my day”!
My student (who watched this film with me) and I also were laughing at how Jet Li never exudes a shred of romantic interest in the females in his movies. We just found it so funny that instead of kissing his “wife” (and a HOTTIE she was), he gave her a fake hug. Because my student and I are both Chinese and have some of that upbringing, we both just started laughing at Li’s false romanticism.
The Hsing Yi used was typical wushu influenced “traditional” Hsing Yi but with Jet Li level reflexes. The Bagua in the movie had a high reverse hand and upturned palm (Cheng Ting Hua lineage, maybe Li Zhi Min was the reason for the high reverse hand?)
Li has good internal power, but not as much as he COULD have. The way he holds his postures indicates that he has more of that wushu/Changquan type jing than a true internal method. He looked a lot more convincing in “Twin Warriors” doing his native piguazhang style.
The two styles were an interesting contrast, and it was clear Jet Li was holding back against the double.
wow, great analysis. Interesting points, but I dont think I would have noticed that he indicates more wushu stances than an internal knowlegde.
Tae Li;)
Look at his breath control and limb placement, Tae Li.
In REAL Hsing Yi and bagua, the postures are much more power oriented. The main reason for this is that they do “ban zhuang” - testing their strikes via pushing on them against walls and people. That kind of training deepens stances, straightens spines, and closes limbs.
If Jet Li did more two-man internal power training, his breath control would be more abdominal and focused. Once again, that’s the result of ban zhuang.
Try pushing a fist against a wall - you’ll feel what I’m talking about.
