Kung fu Vs. BJJ? ... :)

Bahaha… From what Ive heard and read this tends to **** off more people than good ol’ Shaolin-Do.
I however study both, and feel that when used properly gives one a more holistic view of fighting.
Ive seen a couple strikers get beat down by BJJ students and vice versa… I wanted to beat down both so I learned both.
Any opinions anyone?

Ive basically been in the same position,
“my strike fighting is good enough for your BJJ to not even get me to the ground”
However, when you are stand up fighting and some c*cksucker tackles you from behind, its good to know BJJ so you can immediately roll him and break his arm.
I personally took bjj before kung fu, but now Im getting back into it. When I practice BJJ I purposely will not initiate a take down, and there is never any striking involved before hand. I strictly work on manuvers from being taken down, as I feel my sweeps are already proficient.

Considering what a “controversial” topic this is, you people sure dont have sh!t to say…
Just went over a BJJ book on my lunch break, was like taking a complete 30 minute refresher course, the book covered all material up through brown belt… Cant wait to get some more grappling practice in sometime this week.

Who are you studying with?

ahhhhhh… Maybe I should start another thread. evil grin
Ewallace- I have a couple friends here in town who studied private lessons, am looking for more “competent” grapplers around here to practice with however.

Blah.
By “practice” I mean free.
If you are BJJ student in SA then Id be more than happy to pm info to spar.

Sorry, couldn’t help you there. I’ve only rolled twice.

ahh… what style you learn?

None right now. I just don’t have the time or money to train formally since we just moved into a house. I was starting to train Pekiti-Tirsia kali before some merde hit the fan.

ahhh…
hehe… well you can get a free week of shaolin-do…
Thats if you want it… Everyone on here seems to be pretty adimately (sp?) against it…
Do you have any previous experience?
in what? how long?

Shotokan
Longfist
Kenpo

I’ll have to pass on the S-D.

Hehehe…
Well, when I get 2 more sets of mats (my garage will be halfway matted then) Im going to start having a “fight night”… multi martial arts… I have a 4th degree blackbelt in kenpo, couple judo black belts, couple bjj… Havent started it yet, but tend to make it a very educational thing. Learning to fight against only one style is only moderately efficient…
Im in SD now, but Ive been through tae kwan do, gracie jiu jitsu, and hapkido.
Id love to learn eagle claw or longfist, but nowhere I can find here teaches it…

I dont mean I have them silly…
I mean I have them all coming over.
2 blackbelts in judo would be pointless.
Or would I get to consider myself a second degree?

Oh yeah, I have a black belt in mantis/wingchun supposed to be comming over too.
I think thats all for now…
Maybe a couple of SDers from the kwoon…
Im basically “requiring” a blackbelt for them to “fight”.. Im not sponsoring this so people get hurt. Im sponsoring it for the mutual benefit of knowledge of other arts.

You have a couple BJJ blackbelts coming? And a blackbelt in w-c/mantis?

no no no
BJJ = not black belts.
Mantis/wingchun - yes, but he has been out of practice for a while.

Do you happen to know where this mantis/wc guy trained?

From an old chinese man who is dead now, Otherwise id be doing the same **** thing.

Cool.
