Kung fu Vs. BJJ? ... :)

Ewallace - just read your post on a squat machine.
There is a pretty bad ass recycled sports store here in town, equipment there is cheap as hell. My mom got a 3000$ treadmill for like 800$.
i forgot where it is, just go to gosanantonio.com and look up recycled sports.

Just went over a BJJ book on my lunch break, was like taking a complete 30 minute refresher course, the book covered all material up through brown belt…

What book was that?

First Ill make an easy reccomendation. If you want to add BJJ to your fighting, but cant get to an instructor. Go to www.mma.tv and buy the fighters notebook. Its worth the investment.

It gives more than just techniques, it instructs you on how to get there.

The reason BJJ is successfull is not the information but the training method. They train as they would fight. If you want to be a good fighter in the street you need to add alive training to your training. This means putting on the gloves a couple times a week and finding out what works.

This is why BJJ, Judo, kickboxing, boxing do so well in fights. They train the way they fight.

Alive training allows you to get a feel for what works, what the opponents reacts to, develops timing, confidance…

BJJ comes from Judo, they specialized in the ground work, then they train specifically for it constantly.

Read MAtt Thortons article, it talks about sport vs street training.

Cant remember the name of the book, was written by royce gracie tho.
I have fun working on ground fighting… But I love striking.

Hehehe…
Well, when I get 2 more sets of mats (my garage will be halfway matted then) Im going to start having a “fight night”… multi martial arts… I have a 4th degree blackbelt in kenpo, couple judo black belts, couple bjj… Havent started it yet, but tend to make it a very educational thing. Learning to fight against only one style is only moderately efficient…
Im in SD now, but Ive been through tae kwan do, gracie jiu jitsu, and hapkido.
Id love to learn eagle claw or longfist, but nowhere I can find here teaches it…

When You get those mats P.M me when and where the “fight night” will be I’d like to check it out.

Will do.
Will probably be about 3-4 more weeks, Got bills to pay right now.

Cool thanks

The book u were reading was prob. the RENZO and ROYLER Gracie book…ROYCE book doesn’t have anythang to do with belt ranking.

You are exactly right.
Didnt really pay attention to authors, just breezed through techniques.
But that is it.. Forgot what it was called tho.
