I bench pressed yesterday… first time in forever… I put up 180 pretty easy 10 times, 3 sets, may have been able to go more, but I was still beat from night before last. I weigh 165 or so. I was just wondering what you guys weigh and what you work out with…
Thanks.

I weigh about 230 right now. I bench 280. hopefully 315 by the first of the year.
I weigh 160 and bench 200. **** I feel like a *****.
7* and 555 – are you guys talking weight for rep, or max? let’s continue what we do for rep, as that’s the baseline the meatyshakey guy set.
i don’t know how much i do, as i haven’t actually checked into a gym and lifted proper weights. for bench equivalent, i do cable-reinforced pushups (one leg, on knuckles).
i do about five sets of 12 at what i’m estimating as 200, give or take either way. the estimate isn’t conservative or aggressive, so hopefully it’s near the real number.
i’m 5’9", 185.
Max. I’ve only been lifting for about a year. Just recently(about 3 months ago)I started lifting with proper form so im doing 4 sets 5 reps with 145 right now.
Even tho my max was at one point way higher than 200, there’s no way I could ever have done 12 reps with that weight. That’s what low rep training gets you.
Except now I’m a freaking p.ussy and that stupid food poisoning last week didn’t help things. Three weeks to gain 5 pounds, 5 days to lose it. Why do I bother?
Hmmm… I wonder what my max is… 180 was goin up pretty easy… Could have probably put it up 15 or 20 non stop…
Back in February, the last time I lifted proper . . .
Bench Max: 260lbs @ 145lbs Bodyweight
For Reps . . .
about 160 for 6 ![]()
From years of bench press, no posterior training at all, overdeveloped anterior delts, shoulder pain results from pushups, high reps on bench. Muscle-wise, I think I could’ve gone for 190 for 12 or so. Can’t remember off-hand what my next cycle was going to be.
Remember Kids: When weight training, train both anterior and posterior to prevent injuries!
Wow Vash, that’s impressive . I’ve always had crappy power-to-weight. Max I can do is 4x242.5lbs @ 215lbs body weight. Dunno what my 1RM is any more.
I’ve gotta say, I always thought people were doing alright once they could bench their body weight for 8-10 reps. Sounds like everyone here can manage that.
I don’t do 10 reps in a bench workout. Most I do is 8, but that is more of a warm-up than trying to push the envelope. I usually work in the 1-6 range.
Since this is the internet, I can bench 355 for 8 reps.
tehehe. that’s why I usually avoid posting pundages. I could be some 5-2’ 110 lbs weakling with 25% bodyfat for all anybody knows.
could be? ![]()

OK OK! You caught me.
A LONG time ago I used to BP 260 lbs…@180 pounds bodyweight. I think I did 15 reps at 185 lbs. around that time.
220 x 5 was another best.
My goal now is to not train Bench press (for years), walk in there and blow away all my old records. I’ll have to equal my old pull-up max first though before I let myself back in the gym. Off to do pullups…
Oh and my pops used to bench 160 pounds for 3 sets of 30 - he didn’t want to pay for more weight…

Well, around here, my stuff isn’t what you’d call “impressive.” I mean, I was happy with it (really happy that I didn’t drop the bar, since I was going without a spot), but most of the guys in the football program at my weight are doing well over 300lbs on bench. No juice, as far as I know.
Once I get back into being able to work out, ain’t doing bench again for about 2-3 months; get some development on my posterior delts, get some balance and health back in my shoulders.
Well, the impressive part isn’t how much you lifted, it’s how much you lifted vs how much you weighed. I’m surprised if the football guys who bench 300 weigh 145. In fact, I’m surprised (with my nonexistant NFL knowledge) that a guy who weighs 145 can play at all. Most guys in Oz football (AFL) would do 300 too, but they would also be closer to my weight.

Heck dude, that wasn’t pro-leagues. That was my high-school.
Most of the people my weight were in the 8th and 9th grades.
