A speculation thread.
if bruce lee were still alive. things would surely be different.
im sure the whole face of MMA would be different.
MMA is basically on hybrid creation spawned from the ideals of bruce lee. a different direction was totally taken, however, if bl were still around. im sure he would have been a major pioneer in training fighters for this type of venue.
the evolution of MMA may have been drastically different from what took place.
a lot of the JKD *******ization wouldnt be around. clarification would be in place for sure, as well as, most likely, a fully evolved and structured art would be present. led by the one who created it.
and last but not least. there would be one hard core old dude kickin it.
I think he would have grown more as a martial artist and a movie star.
Here is a thought, perhaps he would have changed his views on traditional styles…maybe we would even have Jeet Kune Do forms!
He’d learn the complete wing chun system before making “improvements”.
oh yeah, and he’d pay the triad to put a hit on David Carradine.
I heard that Dano Inosanto travelled to Hong Kong to learn more Wing Chun.
kung fu would be dead…
…and we’d all be doing MMA.
Chief Fox..
Are you joking or are you serious?
he would have stopped teaching martial arts many years ago, if he were still alive. he would have found a different vehicle for self expression.
Are you joking or are you serious?
To an extent, I’m serious. After all, Kung Fu really is MMA (a combination of different styles) when you think about it. I believe the face of kung fu would be different today Had Bruce Lee lived.
Dont’ get me wrong, I don’t think that MMA would be your standard UFC stuff either.
It’s pretty much common knowledge that Bruce’s philosophies on martial arts evolved and were reflected in his movies. Take the opening scene from “Enter the Dragon” where Bruce is fighting Samo. In the end, the fight goes to the ground and he taps Samo out.
This was a demonstration of the characters well rounded fighting ability. This of course is what Bruce considered to be a well rounded fighter as well.
So, (this is speculation) had Bruce lived, I would have expected him to incorporate some kind of grappling in his JKD concepts. Due to his popularity, this, (again speculation) could have forced other arts to embrace the same. Changing the face of kung fu.
Would all of this happened, it’s hard to say. It’s pretty obvious that Bruce was ahead of his time though. It would ahve been interesting, that’s for sure.
if Bruce were alive today…
then Chief Fox wouldn’t be looking for the Iron Monkey ![]()

You’d think I would have captured that scoundral by now. ![]()
He’d learn forms. Possibly because he would through research and discovery, eventually understand what it really is all about. He would see that mo-wai is simply a product of good training, and that every Martial Art can get you there, if taught the way it was originally intended, and would close every JKD school in the world.
he’d be a lot older, somewhere around 65 or so years old.
if he was still alive today.
while he was alive, he was constantly changing what he thought about martial arts and still gleaning what he could from a bunch of different sources.
who knows what he would have come up with by this point in time.
IMO, he would perfect the art of chi blasts and no touch KO’s and prove all the naysayers wrong.
he would have his own line of designer tracksuits, and nike sneakers.
His brother would have an album deal.
He would have his own cartoon show and action figures.
He would be doing Hei Gung, and i full agree with Chief Fox post!
That being said they should have a Bruce Lee MMA Comp they have to wear the black hot pants and gloves out of enter the dragon , which is similar to MMA gloves!!

If Bruce lee was still alive…,
Well,
Jackie chan, jet li & leung ting might not be as famous(ya, $ too) as they are today.
Alot of grandmasters, forms & new MA sects wouldn’t be seen.
JKD will be more perfect with more contents such as…maybe with the muay thai’s kicks & ground grapplings added.
May be his wife will divorce him over his love affairs with other woman(women) & ask for a huge sum of money.
Bruce will be very sad to attend to his own son’s funeral. ![]()
but would brandon lee even have died if bruce were alive? would all the intricate matters have unfolded exactly the same to cause brandons death??
Jason Scott Lee would be waiting on tables.
in a perfect world…
he would have moved into directing and producing, like most creative types do, and pushed the envelope on MA films; talents like Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yun Biao, Jet Li would still have done what they did, but who can say how they would have been influenced by a still alive, ever-evolving guy like Bruce - perhaps they would have collaborated…
he would have kept developing JKD: keeping to what works, “absorbing what was useful” - he may have greatly acelerated the MMA “revolution” - I’m sure he’d have spent time with the Gracie’s when they showed up…
he would have continued his exploration of philosophy, probably practiced some sort of meditation like Ch’an and wold have probably written about it as well
he would have been a tireless advocate for Asians in mainstream cinema
he would have been involved in charity work
he would have smacked Ralph Machio up and down the street like the poodle he is…
then again, he may have burned out, chucked it all and would now be living on some desolate tropical island, sucking mangos on the beach…
