This thread made me laugh.
And thanks for the advice about the flies GDA but I don’t think the lampshade would take it.

im sure it would be fine. just place some fire in direct contact with the lamp and go make a sandwich or something while it does it’s thing. come back in 10 or 15 minutes and the flies will be gone guranteed.

Sounds like something i would have suggested in my younger days on a head full of acid.

Hi IronFist,
Using a spring will soften the jerking action on the chain that is caused by the impact of blows. The spring will absorb the shock and help msintain the integrity of the ceiling mount.

I see. Thanks for the explanation ![]()
funniest thread in a while.
IF, mickey is right, get a spring. It will make it last longer but I have to throw my 12+ years of building maintence out there and say that if you train on that bag as it is mounted then you will indeed **** up the drywall around the mount and eventually (6 months or so) the lags will have come loose in the stud.
since you are putting holes in your ceiling anyway:
get a SYP (southern yellow pine) 2x12, if you can’t find that then a pressure treated board will do. don’t use spruce as it is to soft.
a nice bit of oak or maple would work too if you want to get fancy.
locate TWO rafters (studs technically being in the wall) and cut the 2x12 to span the distance between them and a little more.
Mount the 2x12 to the ceiling and rafters w/ 3-4 lags through the 2x12 and into the rafters.
Then attache the bag mount to the center of the 2x12 using carriage bolts instead of lags and get a spring as well.
that’s a damn good idea.
now lets see if iron fist is to lazy to do it.
You should really take that thing out of the drywall and put in in a stud. Just my advice…
Your apartment is all messy. Clean it up.
Bump this great thread so it doesn’t get purged!!! 2004 baby!!!
btw I no longer live there, but I still have that heavy bag. It’s in storage until I can use it again.
You got the bag to work your condition. All you need is a pair of chopsticks to catch the flying bugs and turn out the lights and try not to step on the crawling ones focus drills.![]()
Yo Iron, wassup.

I think the more pressing question is, how long did it take to fall being mounted in dry wall and all? You really probably should have put it in the stud… ![]()

he didn’t put it in the stud? what’s wrong with him? why would he mount it in drywall instead of in the stud? that’s just crazy…

Still doing exactly the same thing as years ago, MA, PTP and HIIT. Just don’t come on the forums any more. Your post sent me the auto-email that this thread had been updated and it’s my first time back in ages. I looked at the first page of the thread, blast from the past. Lots of old names, I wonder what they’re all doing. Hope you’re well.
lmao…TGY is just regurgitated…SoCo is pretty cool…

hehe, nostalgic forum memories ![]()
I’m doing alright. Had some really good, really bad, more really good, and more really bad things happen over the last few years. I’m just kinda in the middle right now.
Still lifting weights although I had to take about a year off due to medical reasons a couple years ago. I lost like 30-40 pounds and turned into a walking skeleton. But I’ve been back at it for about the last year, although not as hardcore as before. I like working out and hopefully I can continue.
