a while back…heh, 11 or 12 years now, I bought the CS Black Bear fighter…with the sub-hilt and live edge on the back side…really the worst decision ever in a knife but I was younger and dumber…I happened to buy it from a friend of mine who was a shihan in a kempo style and picked it up the weekend of a knife seminar by the soke of the same group…the first thing the soke said when I was admiring and playing with my new toy was “Wow, that’s really convenient of you to give me something to break your finger with when i take that away from you” …in his quiet unassuming, bespeckled pharmacist voice as he walked away.
By the end of the weekend, i decided that sub-hilts, rings and other ‘accesories’ are kinda pointless…a good basic design with a non-slip grip that is comfortable in your hand is all you need.
I’ll agree with you regarding sub-hilts. The rings on the daggers in question, though, I still find myself liking, in part because, though they could indeed pose a hazard to an inserted finger against someone good at disarming, they do grant some extra maneuverability with the knife and aren’t mandatory to use at all times, both unlike the sub-hilt.
I’m curious about the sax machete. How does having the blade on the “spine” like that affect the use? I quite like drop-point blades, kukris and such, but never seen one like that before.
And while I may at some point buy a firearm of some form, I figure just staying out of gunfights is an even better option.
i don’t really think about it that way…prepared…I also keep extra food and water in the car most of the time…i don’t quite have a ‘go to hell bag’ but almost.

well, it opens boxes real handy like…it’s a euro design from way back…‘retro euro’
but, it seems like there is not a lot known about it…I picked it up cheap at a gun show and intend on picking up all of the CS machete variants…a cheap way to pick up some basic examples of different cultures swords/knives

me too…but, you’re counting on it always being an option…just like saying ‘i’ll never have a flat tire’
Oso, one look at your bad a$$ self and Mr. bad guy hauls it. But then again you were challenged in a friggen pizza parlor!
Has anybody checked out www.itg8.com, John Lee had a set of daggers in there, his weapons are usually a bit better quality than most and pricing is fair, the blades looked a bit short but owning several of his pieces they are probably functional.
Cold Steele’s Shanghai Shadow looks like one of the daggers. they are sold separately so for a set, it would run $73.98 plus shipping and such…
They got a pic of a guy on that page with “Warrior Lifestyle” emblazined across the graphic.
problem is, the dude makes it look like the warrior lifestyle is about B-B-Q and cramming doughnuts down your chute.
lol
just an observation. they do have nice blades though.
