challenging?

Hi, im currently not in any martial art school, so is it possible for me to just come to a local school and challenge the people there? I mean not ****ing them off, but like “i challenge you to a match”.

Probably depends upon where you are and the school. Most schools just can’t do this sort of thing because of the liability. If you try it you’ll probably get a sales pitch and if you get violent they’ll probably call the cops.

Probably not a good idea. They’ll invite you to a friendly sparring match, but you’ll soon find it ain’t gonna be so friendly.

Why you ask, anyways? You wanna test out their skill before learning from them? There’s better ways, my man.

If you’re just offering an old-school challenge…then…

I say, go to an hardcore MMA gym and drop the challenge. You’ll never drop one again. They won’t give a **** about the legal facet. You’ll suit up, and you’ll get picked up on a stretcher.

Where, Texas? In CA or Washington you definitely couldn’t get away with this. They won’t suit you up … they’ll walk you out the door.

Man!!! I live in Folsom CA, and there isn’t a MMA gym here, i heard there’s a MMA gym also in Citrus Height, but it’s quite long of a drive, and what’s the age requirement for challenge in MMA? cuz im 16

Unless Folsom’s changed a lot in the past 10 years, there isn’t jack in Folsom. Just wait a couple of years until you get your license or go off to college or something.

they will suit u up it’l just be a lawsuit

just ask them to sign a waiver

we getloads of ppl challenging us in manchester (manchester ground’n’pound valetudo mixed martial arts 12 newton street) (lol shameless aren’t i)
well at least we used to get alot of ppl
they neer came back cops dont bother us because ppl are usually to proud to admit they got beaten in a MA match)

and guys im not testing out my skills before i learn from them, as i said in my profile, my dad knew kungfu so he trained me at home, i don’t have any partner except for my dad, so you can’t get better at something without challenge, so i have to get in fights to see how much i progress, but street fight involve guns and cops so that i wont touch. But MA schools seems to be a good place to have a challenge so i just brought up the idea. And yeah, that’s true, there isnt any jack here that i knew off!!

Trust me, if it were that easy, I’d have done it a long time ago. In the U.S., it ain’t that easy.

There’s at least 50 schools around here I wouldn’t mind challenging.

There are a couple that do have open sparring, and if you really want to, they have cage fights now, at least in WA, but that’s about it.

just in case you misunderstood.

Yeah, welcome to a problem … how do you get partner practice in your non-school style? Most schools won’t let you fight their students unless you sign up for classes.

There are open tournaments and if you’re really into it there are fights and stuff. CA just legalized that sort of thing but it was on the reservations before.

I’d say at your age you might just want to go to a school but unfortunately they’ll require you to learn their style.

oh yeah lol i’m 16 aswell

i trained MMA since i was like 14 so i guess it depends on the school

u probably wont have to challenge an MMA gym because for the most part there aint much BS there (for now , give it a couple decades and i’m sure they will be squablling just as badly as the rest of the MA community)

That’s too bad. What about signing up for MA competition? Do they require that u must be in a school?
That’s too bad. What about signing up for MA competition? Do they require that u must be in a school?
depends on the tournament and weither its an open comp or not
That’s too bad. What about signing up for MA competition? Do they require that u must be in a school?
It depends. Some are association tournaments and some are ‘open’ tournaments. ‘Open’ tournaments you can usually enter without a school. It’s kindof weird going to a tournament all by yourself, though.

When you get a car you can probably start going to that MMA place, though – it isn’t that far away.

That CLF place in Folsom doesn’t look that bad, but you’d have to take another style.

Actually, that MMA place is only like 20 mins away. You can’t beg your parents to drive you? You could always take the bus. (Buses suck, though, right?).

Hey, so that MMA place accept challenge right? Where is it?
Hey, so that MMA place accept challenge right? Where is it?
they should do
but you wont win i’ll tell you that now

and why not?
Hey, so that MMA place accept challenge right? Where is it?
Dude, no offense, but you need somebody to teach you a few things. If you’re 16 you should be able to find things and get a drivers license now.
