Bloody noses are fun

Yeah I got tapped in the nose tonight and it started bleeding. wtf? It wasn’t even remotely close to being a hard punch. It was like warmup drilling soft. And my nose started bleeding so much that I had to go to the bathroom for like 10 minutes and get it to stop.

Does that stop over time? Like will your nose get used to it and not bleed then? Or did I just get hit at the wrong angle or something? It’s pretty annoying.

I’d say you just got hit at an odd angle. I’ve been tagged pretty hard and not bled and then tapped and bled like you. Some people are just more prone to nosebleeds for whatever reason. I suppose if it happens enough times you can build up some scar tissue and that will make nose bleeds less frequent.

U got loads of veins in ur nose. sometimes the skin is thick and other times there not. One of my mates has a real prob with nose bleeds, he gets them when he is stressed or even if he sneezes.

Happened to me last night too just from a light tap lucky I didn’t bleed much. I am one of the unfortunates who get nosebleeds easily - from stress, dry air, or even sudden temperature changes like jumping into a cold pool.

It doesn’t get any better over time and repeated hits- there goes your scar tissue theory.

The only solution that I know is to get the blood vessels cauterized by a doctor. (extremely painful I can imagine  )

Errr… they would probable let u have some anasthetic.

Nope, from what I can see if you are prone to nose bleeds then you will always be prone.

Unless of course you get your nose broken so many times that the bone is no longer valid, then you will more or less be able to be hit in the nose as often as you like.

Of course you may be lucky, it could have been a one off lucky angle:D

If you’re prone to nosebleeds, before sparring, rub a little bit of vaseline on the inside of your nostrils.

This also works if you’re prone to getting cut on the face (some folks cut from impact easier than others.)

I get nosebleeds more often from fingers slipping up inside my nose because the other guys didn’t clench his fist (the problem with those MA gloves with the little grippy thing for the fingers)than I do from direct punches. But I’m a bleeder, anyway.

I’ll try that.

I don’t know if I’m THAT prone to nosebleeds, but I do get them sometimes at night if the air is dry.

IronFist,

My little brother showed me this last night, it came to mind for three reasons.

The topic of your thread, the videos you post up, and drunked college guys thinking they know what their doing when it comes to breaking boards.

Although the actual break is pretty impressive, ehh no it’s not.

This has bad language so be carefull at work, around your kids, etc.

Enjoy.

I’ve been told an old boxing trick is to put salt in your nose( probably with a Q-tip). I would get skinned and cut knuckles, so my Muay Thai trainer told me to soak them in salt water, and then put salt on them.It works. They callused up real nicely and I got nice calluses on my knuckles. Salt is the way.

Hmm I’ll look into that.

I don’t really want callouses tho, especially not in my nose

Apparently at MK’s kwoon, you CAN pick your friend’s nose.

I am also prone to nosebleeds, although it’s by far the worst in really dry weather.

There’s always Nasal Douching. Don’t ask, it’s a joke with some of the students. Anyway, I get nose bleeds constantly. Usually when I first wake up from the house being dry. Used to get them in sparring when I’d get tapped, but not when I took a forceful shot to the nose .

Nothing much is going to help. Just learn to block better ;).

This also works for any kind of bleeding tendancy. Cold weather makes the skin on my hands crack and bleed, so I put vasoline on the knuckes and other problem areas before I go outside. I also cote them at night in a thick layer then put on cotten gloves. It definantly helps.

I have heard of boxers putting cut off tampons in their noses to stop bleeding real quickly.

Haven’t tested this theory but who knows it may work.

I got lightly struck in the lower jaw area a few weeks ago and it bruised my gums real bad and my teeth hurt for a few days. Sometimes someone just hits you the right way and it doesn’t need lots of power? The funny thing is I don’t think the strike was all that hard.

Yeah, but good thing it wasn’t a really hard shot. If it hurt a lot soft, imagine how much it would have hurt if it was hard!

Well, the ones that HAVE tried it (NOT ME mind you) have said it does fantastic things for clearning up your sinuses. Um, I’m gonna take their word for it…but it DOES look like a relatively easy way to add salt to your nose

They should at least have more instruction than that, tho.

That picture made me jump when I saw it!
