Best shoe for hung gar?

What is the best kind of common (street) shoe for hung gar? Do you have a brand favorite? Model?

What you have on your feet are what you are going to be using when you have to use your kungfu.

Don’t get trapped into thinking you need special things to practice.

But, wearing clothes or footware that is not conducive to free movement is counterproductive to martial arts as well.

Pants on the ground wear, which is popular with youth these days is useless for pretty much anything including kungfu practice.

High heeled boots = not stable and so on.

It’s common sense really.
Flat shoes that allow you to feel the ground somewhat are preferred by most martial artists. Just like keeping your hair short is common sense to the martial artist as well.

There’s a lot of common sense aspects to martial practice.

i find light hiking or low cut hiking shoes to be the best for training(vasque, asolo, keen)… i also read once about a company that used old tires for soles.

Only David would think of doing Hung Gar in high heels

I’m going to sling some product. Try the Feiyue High Tops in Black. Those should work nicely for Hung Gar.

hum.. those look pretty much like a wrestling shoe. I’ve never liked the low cut of KF shoes. I’ve always took the approach of getting support for the ankle. just my opinion everyone likes different things.

I’ve always worn wrestling boots. I have a narrow foot, and those jing-mo boots slide around. Wrestling boots are basically the same-flat sole, reinforced toe and heel, ankle high, but they have more arch support, and lace up tight.
I am moving to a new location, and will have those wood grained Zebra mats down, so I will be requiring that all students wear Feiyue’s.
Gene-hit me up with a wholesale price list!!!

He’s talking about a street shoe…

Greetings,

It really depends on the feet you have.

Yet, I have seen a lot of practitioners Northern, Southern, etc., move VERY well in Rockports. Are those babies still around?

BUY THEM NOW!!!

DO IT!!!

:stuck_out_tongue:

when I worked the door in a bar, I used to buy these black leather athletic shoes with steel toes from Sears. They looked like an ordinary pair of reeboks. I called them my Fong Sai-Yuk shoes. Not sure if they still make them though.
Also, they were uncomfortable as sh1t.

any flat, thin sole shoes

i have these

I wear both thin soled shoes at the place we train as heavy hiking boots when I’m out in the woods and decide to do a form or some stancetraining…

Ultimately it shouldn’t matter what shoes you wear. You should be able to fight/perform in the shoes you wear in your daily life. You can’t change shoes before a fight starts, right?

What, you’ve never seen “Billy Jack?”

No I had to look that name up on Wikipedia!
What, you’ve never seen “Billy Jack?”:D
technically he didn’t really change shoes.

BUt he did remove his boots which was a sign that some redneck was about to get his comeuppance Billy JacK Style. :stuck_out_tongue:

Billy Jack was THE original American Martial Arts action hero.

BTW and FWIW, whatever you do, do NOT watch these movies again. I promise you, your memories will be all taht much more fonder of them.

If you do watch them again, prepare for bitter disappointments and a sudden urge to side with the rednecks AGAINST the dirty hippies that Billy Jack is always sticking up for. lol

At least, if you’re over 40 now, that’s the way it is…

I have done my MA in running shoes, boots, bare feet and even socks.
All of them made the workout different.
Workout on wood, concrete, grass and sand too, all surfaces make a difference.

Noone will beat me, I practice on flipflops from time to time!

So does the World’s greatest killer !!

kung fu hustle plug

according to the modern research, shoes for the training are VERY important, but not the way people think. usually, the more simple, cheaper (and thin soled as i wrote before) shoes, the better.

Just had to pipe in and give a good ole “Hell Yah!” for mention of Billy Jack. Love those flicks (then again - I’d have to agree with David in that watching it later in life is a bit disappointing :stuck_out_tongue:

Gene,
You have anything good for CLF? I bought some Tiger Claw shoes waaaay back when, but it’s time they get replaced. My running shoes don’t work so well.
