Just watched it over the weekend. It’s truly meant as a fan service for the fans of the original series A Step into the Past.
I’m going to see it tomorrow. I never saw the original series. Will it still make sense?
Should be okay I guess . They also showed some flashback from the series for people to catch up, but it may not feel the same..
Here is the series if you are interested : ( English sub )
Or at least a summary below
Cool. Thanks for that link to the original series. I won’t have time to watch it beforehand but I may check it out afterwards.
2nd FORUM REVIEW
This was fun. Having never seen the show, I could sense how some of the scenes must have been so hard hitting if you were a fan. It did make me want to watch the show and find out more about what it’s about. But it seemed pretty simple plotwise - it was more about the backstory of the characters, some of which was fulfilled by the flashback footage (which was digitally enhanced to be more theatrically cinematic). Part period film, part sci-fi, some drama and a lot of comedy, but not too much Kung Fu. There’s a flying skateboard fight. The set pieces are amazing. And there’s some rather large crowd scenes that don’t look like CGI (but it’s getting so hard to tell now). Good production values throughout.
Overall entertaining, and it had an alternate ending after the main credits where the leads gathered for a meal and wished everyone Happy New Year (it’s a traditional cliche deployed by many Lunar New Year films).
Glad that you enjoyed it Gene ! Agree that the story overall was simple. I expected more from Chris Collins and Wu Yue’s role in the movie but they were pretty short.
Yes it was fun. Made me want to dig into those Tubi episodes you shared above. Thanks again for that!
I probably will soon.
