B-Vitamin concerns

I recently decided to start taking a B-complex supplement. I’ve found the supplement to be a great help in boosting my energy levels. But I have some concerns. For one thing, according to the % daily values on the back of the bottle, it contains 3000 % B-1 (thiamin), 2941% Riboflavin (B-2), 250% Niacin, etc. etc., with the only component at 100% or less being Folic Acid at 100% and Biotin at 17%. Is that really healthy?

I mean, I’m not a doctor (nor do I play one on TV) but 3000% of anything in your body seems like it’s getting to “enough to choke a donkey” status. Of course, I plan on consulting my doctor at my next visit, but I didn’t know if anyone had any experience with this.

This one in particular is called “B-Complex 50” by GNC. It also makes No. 1 look like lemon-lime gatorade

Your body will flush out what it does not absorb… that’s why #1 looks like gatoraid  No worries

agreed with above, B vitamins are water soluable (sp?) and the system will naturally flush what is not needed.

yeah, as mentioned above, note the neon green color of your pee…

thanks for the replies, everyone! They have been most helpful, and have eased my concerns. The b-vites are working quite well, and the neon green color is no longer so disconcerting (and it gave my wife a good laugh too, which is usually a good thing  )

Yeah, Vitamin C and the B Vitamins are water soluble, so you pee out what you don’t use. I mean, I probably wouldn’t take 100000% of them, but you should be ok with the dose in the vitamin you were talking about.

All the other vitamins, on the other hand, are fat soluble, which means your body will store the excess in fat, and it IS possible to OD on them. That’s probably why the non C and B vitamins are not like 3000%.

Remember that B vitamins have names like thiamin and riboflavin and stuff, so if you see that on the label, it’s a B vitamin. Some companies use those names instead of their letter designation.
