Here’s a question about vitamins I have been taking. I started taking a Multi for men, B complex, a small dietary pill for appetite and a vitamin C pill. I know it is a lot of C but it helps with the immune system. My problem is after starting to take these I notice that it makes me feel like crap, not too bad but a little sick. I eat food with them like a bowl of serial.
Is the problem I am taking too many at once or because they are cheap pills? I think I have decent brand pills. The multi pills are not natural pills but are good brand. Sometimes I only take the multi pill and I still feel a little bad. Any ideas?
What are the types of pills? Capsules, tablets, etc..??? Do they have magnesium stearate in them? Also, have you tried to eliminate one at a time to see if there is one particular one that is doing it??
Some people don’t tolerate supplements as well as others, but I think you should gather more data before labeling yourself as one of those people.
Do you always take them in the morning?? Always with the same food? There could be lot of variable at play.

They are Tablets.
I’m not totaly sure about the magnesium. What will magnesium cause?
I have tried taking them in different combonations one at a time and it bothers me the most when I take several pills at once.
I allways eat somthing. I have noticed that if I eat very light and then take several pills it is worse. If I eat more it can help. And I take them in the morning before work. Maybe it would be better to take them at lunch.
I can allmost allways handle a lot of supplements and Herbs. My wife is from Japan so we get crap loads of ginseng and other herbal stuff and these work fine. Maybe I should stick with all natural vitamins.
Currenlty the main pills are:
Multi one a days for men
B-complex
Picolanate
C
Try just the multi by itself. C you will never be deficient in and the multi should give you enough that you don’t need any further b-complex.
Also when you say you are feeling bad or ill describe what your symptoms are…I’m no doctor but it may help myself or others in giving advice. The best solution is see your doctor or pharmacist. You may have low tolerance or an allergy to something you are taking…
When it makes me feel sick it gives me nausea. Kind of like if you take vitamins without eating anything but not as bad. But I have been eating enough before taking the pills.
while i’m actually a fan of C, EP is right, eliminate that one first. it can cause a wide variety of GI distress, especially in high amounts. i’m also wondering about the “small dietary pill”…you seem to gloss over that one (which is fine, if you don’t want to share). if your multi is complete and of high quality, you shouldn’t need to take a B complex on top of that. personally, i recommend going with Thorne products. or maybe Pure Encapsulations. (there are others in a similar category.) i also vote for capsules. [magnesium stearate isn’t used as a source of mag in the multi, it’s used as a binding agent in tablets/caplets. it causes some people problems.]
also, move to taking them at lunch a couple of days. see if that helps. even with some normal foods, my GI system occasionally has problems with things in the morning that it has no problems at all with after 11am. never underestimate the importance of the digestive fires.
EP…i’m actually GLAD you’re not a doctor…most doctors don’t know **** about nutrition and supplementation. =)

So really if I am taking a one a day for men then I could take out the B-complex and C. What else would be good for energy? I do Kung Fu of couse but also I am trying to pick up my cardio routines. The Picolanate is something I have been trying to see if it help quench you appetite, I was taking Ripped fuel but I stopped because of the ephederine it contains. I know ripped fuel is much different than the Picolanate but one thing I liked about ripped fuel is I would not feel hungery that often. Thanks for the advice.
Although I think ECA stacks like ripped fuel are great supplements they aren’t for everyone. I think maybe that could be the cause of your nausea. ECAs cause internal heating which has a potential side-effect of a sick feeling which I used to experience when I used it. I cut the dose in half and still enjoyed a boost in energy without the problems of sickness.
Exercise in itself is a form of energy booster. You workout and train and you get better bloodflow, faster metabolism and you feel overall more energetic all the time…not just when you pop a pill.
