I read an article about this instructor in an old IKF. He sounded pretty serious and non-cheesy with an emphasis on being able to both fight effectively and fight with real traditional kung fu. Hawaii back in the day was not fertile ground for McKwoons. The Hawaiin martial art community was full of tough guys who would challenge perceived frauds. The fact that these guys have lasted teaching there might prove some evidence of their skills.
