Any other barefooters out there?

I’m just curious if there is anyone here that likes to run barefoot?

I’m looking to run a 5k this year without shoes.

I dont run bearfoot because i run a lot of offroad trails, but i run as close i can get in footwear. i generally wear matt shoes or those aqua shoes just to keep from getting stabbed with roots/rocks/sticks and any crazy random needles i might be unlucky enough to find :frowning:

i cant stand running shoes in the slightest. i dont mind running in my feiyues either.

(Part time, gentle terrain)

I am not going to run any marathon’s, but it is 9 miles downmountain to town and I walk that carrying shoes for hot or rocky spots. I can walk quite a way barefooted, but not more than about 3 miles at a stretch or SORE from all the rocks.
I think on part-timers like me, the shoe breaks make a big difference - or at least I know they prevent a lot of suffering. You get conditioned back up, but it is a lot more gradual and less noticeable.

You’ll need to get used to it. I never run barefoot on asphalt or concrete, but I will on grass, sand, and dirt.

I’ve got soccer field near my home that i’ll go and do sprints for various distances. I actually did the equivalent of a 5k (though with sprinting and lots of rest) last night. So, it can be done if the surface is right.

I run 1.5 miles every other day at the moment. I run it on asphalt typically.

On the days that I don’t run, I still walk the distance.

From what i’ve heard, it even with the conditioning I do beforehand, i’ll most likely still end up with some abrasions or blisters after the race. Probably because i’ll be pushing myself more than usual.

well you could alway get some vibram five fingers…but they are a bit pricey considering what they are (basically fancy rubber foot slipper).

I actually bought a pair last year. I like them, but it just isn’t the same when it comes to running. Even in that thin sole there is a lot of communication lost.

If you don’t run correctly on asphalt(barefoot), it doesn’t take long for you to figure it out.

Vibrams have become the shoes I wear when I am required to wear shoes, lol.
